Dreaming Oil, Farmaesthetics
INSPIRATION: The first in our Aetheric Inhalation Oil series. Dreaming Oil is like the whisper of something soft and kind at bedtime. A flutter of therapeutic, aromatic molecules to breathe in once warmed in palms or placed on cotton ball or hankie and tucked under your pillow. The aromatic “easement” begins right away, shifting a work-weary or worried mind into the gentler realm of a night’s quiet journey. A lullaby in a bottle for grown-ups.
HISTORY: The word ether was first documented in use somewhere between 1350 and 1400. It is Middle English derived from the Latin word aethēr which translates to “the upper air, pure air” and from the Greek word aithḗr meaning “to glow”.
In ancient times, humans slept in two four-hour blocks, which were separated by a period of wakefulness in the middle of the night lasting an hour or more. During this time one would stay in bed, pray, or just generally linger in the aether of their dream life… This interim allowed humans to wake up after dreaming and have a bit of quiet in which to reflect. It was a pathway to their subconscious, and regarded as a critically important part of their wellbeing.
