Cinematerre Summer Festival 2009

To a 200 acre private and largely wild playground of forests, fields and clearings we will add musicians, performers, DJs, dance floors and 300 kind-hearted, art-minded, open-spirited, future thinking campers. Dance party, camping weekend, and art sharing event all in one, Cinematerre Summer Festival is a party for a new era.

Cinematerre will bring music, art of all media and non-stop creative frivolity together in a new and different party environment. This is a festival for artists, art-lovers, dancers, neo-hippies, club-kids, masquerade ball goers, ravers, goths, nature lovers, visionaries, idea people, camping enthusiasts, participatory idealists and anyone else. Your preferred style of dress, music or genre is irrelevant as long as you enjoy participating in the visual fabric of the events you attend.

The music will span many genres: during the day scheduled and impromptu performances from acoustic rock to drum circles will be offered for your enjoyment. At night, DJs will take over the hidden sound spaces and offer up stirring, danceable beats in many styles on the forest floor.

Cinematerre is a Leave No Trace event, so be prepared to carry away all that you bring in. We don’t aim to be carbon neutral, but we’d like to keep green ideals in mind for all areas of the festival. As such, one of our dance floors will run on 100% renewable energy in the form of a solar powered, rechargeable car with a nightclub level sound system built in. Our goal is for the event to enrich our lives without depleting our resources. We believe in being the last generation of conspicuous consumption, and the first generation of conspicuous creation.

The Cinematerre Art Project will be our visual diary for the event. Attendees will be encouraged to contribute to an evolving sculpture made entirely with found art. There is no group leader, structure or set plan for the sculpture – it will be a pure manifestation of our collective talents and ingenuity. When the weekend is over, it will remain at the Cinematerre site as a lasting reminder of the time we spend there.

We believe in coming together to create an event that is collaborative, low cost and where each individual is inspired both to bring to and take away something from the time they spend there.

For much of our lives, we are passengers, extras. As Cinematerrans we will be actors, producers, technicians and the set itself.
