How Weird Street Faire
The 11th annual
How Weird Street Faire
Sunday May 9, 2010
from Noon to 8pm
Centered at Howard & 2nd Streets, San Francisco, Earth.
Ten downtown city blocks of music, celebration, art, performances, and fun! Vendors from around the world with unique goods. Food and drinks and so much more! All ages welcome. Costumes highly encouraged.
And a new world record. At the end of the faire (7:40pm) we will broadcast a special peace song on all ten music stages simultaneously, along with a dance tutorial. All participants are invited to take part in the World's Largest Bollywood Dance!
The How Weird Street Faire uses music to bring many different kinds of people together and create a common bond. We have found that dancing knows no boundaries or political affiliation. Music, more than any other form of communication, is able to transcend differences between people. It is through music and art that peace is always possible.
This year includes music stages by Space Cowboys, Brass Tax, Symbiosis, Muti Music, Rebel Bass Collective, Tantra, Groove Garden, Non Stop Bhangra, Temple Nightclub, Opel, Opulent Temple, Le Harem, Aum Festival, Red Marines Festival, Team Infinity, Ultraviolet Carnival, Style/Clash, and more!
New this year is a non-stop fashion runway show throughout the day, featuring stylistic dance music, and the latest fashions from top local designers and artists. Fashion Alley will introduce faire-goers to the world of conscious fashion. There will be interactive media and art focused on education and action. Take part in “Designer Activism”, supporting Amnesty International’s work in the apparel industry.
Also new this year is Shanti Street, a healing arts area featuring yoga and activites, massages, and holistic vendors.
The Main Entrance is at Howard & New Montgomery Streets, near many MUNI lines, and 2 blocks from the Montgomery BART station. That is also where there will be complimentary bike parking thanks to the SF Bicycle Coalition.
There is a requested donation of $10 (or $5 in costume). And with that donation you'll once again receive a Magic Sticker! The Magic Sticker gives you: $1 off every drink at the bars, $2 off the after party, and discounts at many of the vendors. Magic Stickers are only available during the day at the faire entrances.
All proceeds go to the non-profit World Peace Through Technology Organization.
