WHO IS GETTING THE MONEY RAISED AT THIS EVENT?

NEW ORLEANS JAZZ & HERITAGE FOUNDATION is a non-profit charity based in New Orleans with programs in the areas of education, economic development and cultural events.A These programs include The Don "Moose" Jamison Heritage School of Music, a free after school music program for kids age 11-17; the Tom Dent Congo Square Lecture Series that delves into the history of the African Diaspora and the cultural history of New Orleans;A Raising the Roof program, that helps musicians find affordable housing in New Orleans in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, and many more.

ASIAN AMERICANS FOR EQUALITY has been working since 1974 to advance the rights of Asian Americans and all those in need through advocacy and access in civil rights, immigrant assistance, social services, affordable housing, and economic development. Recently, AAFE was the organization that assisted hundreds of tenants when the building at 283-85 Grand Street suddenly burned to the ground.A AAFE also seeks to foster understanding and unity among diverse communities through building coalitions and forming collaborations.

FIGMENT is a grassroots effort, organized and run entirely by volunteers as a gift to the host cities (that in 2011 include NYC, Boston and Jackson, MS). FIGMENT fosters emerging artists, encourages participation, and engages youth and families while avoiding commercialism and corporate branding. FIGMENT is always free, and at a time when so many people are struggling to get by, FIGMENT is proud to celebrate an abundance of inspiration. Despite the scarcity all around us, there is no shortage of creativity, innovation, and passion. FIGMENT provides a place where people can bring the plentiful gifts that they have to offer and share the wealth.

SONS OF ITALY // COOLEY'S ANEMIA FOUNDATION Since its founding in 1905, The Order Sons of Italy in America have grown to over 700 local chapters nationwide while continuing to foster education and recognition for the culture of Italy. Lt. Joseph Petrosino Lodge is the only Sons of Italy lodge located in New Yorka£á™s Historical Little Italy, and has chosen Cooley's Anemia foundation to receive their portion of the donations from the Mardi Gras fundraiser.
The Cooley's Anemia Foundation is dedicated to advancing the treatment and cure for this fatal blood disease, enhancing the quality of life of patients and educating the medical profession, trait carriers and the public about Cooley's anemia/thalassemia major.
