Peace Moves
Anyone who has witnessed or participated in the recent wave of inspiring gatherings for democracy, justice, and peace – from Tahrir Square to Zuccotti Park (now returned to its original name – "Liberty Square" – by the community there) – has felt the joy and power of moving together as one. Every great social movement has harnessed the power of choral movement to literally move people, inwardly and outwardly. Sunday, October 2nd, is the birthday of one of the 20th century's greatest souls, Mohandas K. Gandhi, whose leadership of the Salt Satyagraha in 1930 – the mass march of Indians to the sea, to win the right to make their own salt – was a turning point in the modern history of the Indian people in their quest for self-rule.
To honor Mahatma ("Great Soul") Gandhi, and to draw upon this gift of choral movement to harmonize contemporary New Yorkers' aspirations for justice and peace. PEACE MUSEUM NY invites you to join in a simple Peace Meditation with movement and gesture, and walk a short distance through the park together, in harmonious, beautiful rhythm. Join us as we move towards Peace one step at a time.
