Elements of Magic class — Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Spirit — register by Sept 29

Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Spirit—with the art of magic, we deepen our vision and focus our will, empowering ourselves to act in the world. This is an introduction to the practice of magic in the Reclaiming tradition of witchcraft. Techniques include: sensing and moving energy, visualization, boundary setting, chanting, trance, creating magical space, spellcraft, and structuring rituals. We intend to provide a fair and nurturing environment for all participants.

Elements of Magic is recommended for those who would like to learn to create sacred space and work with myth, symbols and deities from a pagan perspective and can be incorporated into any religious tradition. We welcome both beginning and advanced students who want to deepen their experience of the sacred elements. Each class is structured as a ritual, and includes practical ritual and magical skills.

Led by
BrightFlame is a teacher, writer and priestess who brings forth Mystery. She leaped into the Reclaiming Tradition in 1995 at Vermont Witchcamp, where she taught in '04. She loves to teach, to play in the forest and at the ocean. Her specialties include: sensing and shaping energy, leading trance journeys, creating labyrinths, storytelling in ritual form, working with faeries and land spirits, aspecting the gods and introducing people to the Mysteries.

Vajra began practicing magic in the Reclaiming Tradition in 1997 and works the 12 steps of recovery as an integral part of her daily practice. At the core of her being, she deeply values and honors the great variety and diversity of life. Vajra experiences divinity in the meeting places of seeming contradictions: composting in NYC, fearlessness in the face of fear, edge-walking in the center, art and accounting, the fiercely gentle hold of the dark goddess.

Logistics

• Six Thursday evenings: October 13th, 20th, 27th, November 3rd, 10th and 17th, 2011 (we ask that participants be committed to attending all classes)
• 6:30 - 9:30 pm
• Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan
• Sliding scale $75 – 180 (we are excited to announce that proceeds will benefit the upcoming film adaption of Starhawk's novel, The Fifth Sacred Thing)

• Prerequisite: the first six chapters of The Spiral Dance by Starhawk
