2010 has been an epic year for Evolver Long Beach, as we started off a wee four months old, and have seen amazing community connections, collaborations, and projects grow from our monthly spore events. The following is a summary of the year’s events, with links to videos and other media.
Ring in the new year with The Evolver Mix Tape, a collection of music by Evolver allies in the Long Beach, California region. This 40-minute digital download features diverse genres of Indie-pop, experimental hip-hop, dub-step, classical, and abstract psychedelic vibes.
I was flipping through my Tarot deck, as we made our way back to Union Square from our very first Evolver summit, when someone asked if we'd done a draw for Evolver in general...the big picture.
Evolvers in Long Beach have been exploring the universe, water, and action, this Summer, and it's all flowed and come together in magical ways!
We've explored "Life in the Universe," discussing sound and vibration and enjoying the sounds of Familiar Trees and a slew of talent from our corner of the galaxy, raising funds for our new time bank and The Infinite Yoga center.
I recently heard John Trudell speak at the US Social Forum in Detroit.
He was talking about how reactionary politics and activism often starts from a place of anxiety and fear, from a place of trauma and defensiveness, under which lies an investment in the illusion that we’re not good enough.
Southern California Evolver and Reality Sandwich writer Amy George reads her essay “Dreaming the New World In” at April’s Evolver Orange County Spore. The essay crystallizes her perspectives on the most essential characteristics of dreams.
Long Beach Evolvers recently performed spoken word and hip-hop at The Long Beach Experiment, at The Cellar in downtown Long Beach.
Poets included Mat Walker, Annie Gholson, Eusebio Akasha, Wanderlust Dream, and Christine Petit. They will also be performing at the Green Long Beach Festival on May 22nd. http://www.greenlb.org
Members of the Evolver Long Beach regional group are in the process of forming a community time exchange, after introducing the concept of time banking at the "Give It Up" spore held in January.
After tonight's conference call, where we discussed the future of Evolver Social Movement, I find it important to speak up on the importance of inclusiveness and argue that we find creative ways to involve diverse communities in our efforts to evolve consciousness.
