Alternative Education Models

Hi, Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I started this group and am glad there are some members! I have found out about Alternative Education mainly through an organization called AERO (Alternative Education Resources Organization). http://www.educationrevolution.org They are based in Long Island. I went to their conference in 2007 and found out about a whole bunch of great alternative educational models:

-Democratic Schools
-Free Schools
-Montessori
-Waldorf

Also, there are all kinds of different schools out there that mix it all up. A lot of the forms of education you listed seem to one and the same. For instance, project-based learning requires a cooperative learning model. And learner-centered education usually requires deschooling before it is successful because secondary education students need to be deschooled in order to discover what it is they really want to learn about in the learner-centered curriculum.

I really think alternative education models are the key to the "education crisis," to pave the way to the development of young people towards innovation, self-responsibility, personal happiness, and a transformation of society from greedy and slave-based to open-hearted and empowered. Our society is not abundant unless people are happy and motivated to live with a purpose in harmony with their natures and the well-being of the Earth and other people.

Let's keep this conversation going if possible...

as a self motivated entrepreneur

as a self motivated entrepreneur most of my life learning has been done through taking on projects.

I like watching documentaries for info, rather than reading, so glad there is lots of those.

reading web stuff for research though is easy enough, just not long books.

Unschoolers Here

I am interested in talking about radical unschooling and those who are currently deschooling themselves. Anybody out there?
