Circle researchers still do not know why crop formations appear where they do. Some people think it is do to local "ley lines" or geo-magnetic anomolies. Approx 95% of formations occur where ther is significant groundwater. Many circle researchers think formations are linked to the unique geology of the soil in southern England which is mostly derived from white chalk. Surface water (i.e. rain) percolates through the chalk soil creating an electrical charge in the ground which intensifies as the groundwater disipates during the summer. This electrical charge in the ground may be the basis for the actual cause of circle formation. Highly charged plasma (-) in the Earth's ionosphere is attracted to the ground charge (+) and the two forces merge to create a vortex which ultimately creates the formations. But this is just a theory... The process may be natural and intelligent, which causes much dissatisfaction among scientists since natural phenomenom are not considered to display intelligence. (i.e. what is the IQ of a tornado?)
