following the light

I'm usually one who doesn't remember my dreams at all; however, lately I've been having a continuous flow of very vivid, lucid dreams where I'm conscious and aware that I am in a dream state. So Here's a little story of a couple nights ago of a dream where I found myself really taken back by the whole experience, like "Whoaa, did that just happen?" because it felt so real.

There I am in bed, just closed my eyes, still awake and ready to drift off into lala land. Although, I don't know whether or not I ever really fell asleep. So my eyes are closed, everything is pitch black and then I notice a little pin-sized dot, you know like when rub your eyes and you "see stars", something like that. So to keep my mind off all my thoughts so I could actually fall asleep, as somethings I have trouble sleeping, I focused all my attention on this spec of light. As time went by I noticed the size of it increasing little by little until it grew no more, maybe a small marbel size off in the distant, but now it had a glow it as if light was being cast from it. Knowing that it wasn't getting any larger I was determined to get my self closer and thought to myself, still awake eyes closed, "Just walk to it". Then all of sudden there I was, no clue where because it was pitch black but I was there. I started taking small steps as I couldn't even see an inch in front of me and I found that marbel size dot increased larger in size resembeling an orb of a 3-dimensional shape floating in mid-air. As I got closer this orb started moving away so I had to keep up it and the closer and closer I got the more it start to shine, illuminating the surrondings, still I place that was unrecognizable. Then it started to resemble a hall of a temple, maybe, not too sure, with cloaked figures all standing in a circle like a gathering where the orb stopped right in the centre and lit the whole room. Mantras could be heard being chanted from these individuals as if a sort of ritual was about to be performed. When I got close enough it seemed that these figures had no faces, some appeared to have masks and some were completely distorted where it was unrecognizable. Getting anxious as to where I was and what was the hell was going on I turned to one and asked, "I don't think I should be here should I?". Turning to me, the masked figure replied humbly, "Yes you should" as if welcoming me to join in with them. Then I woke up and found myself back in my room stunned at what had just experienced.

Ever since I've just pondering to myself, "Where was I? What lies in that temple? Who were these beings? What was this orb of light? How can I find my back to this place? Was I ever asleep or was I able to transcend into a higher world?". So many questions to ask, now only to find the answers.

orbital dreams

Last night I had an orb dream, I have had quite a few remembered ones, but also perhaps some forgotten. I have also had physical manifestations of orbs.
What interests me about the dream you mention is that most of my orbital dreams include visual disturbance, sleeping and conscious confusion- well many of the phenomenon you mention here.
In my dream last night the orbs were cluster-ish not a defined light point, but a blurred light source which seemed to be acting as a vehicle for an entity/entities. They did not reveal themselves, but I was aware that they occupied this bright but slightly fractured body of light. At one point in the night (I tend to awake and then re-enter dreams) I awoke to see a shower of small red orbs covering my field of vision.
In my dream the orbs were accompanied by disabilitating visual disturbance.
The orb is said to also act as a vehicle of travel, and can be used to dream quest if you figure out how.
Thanks for sharing

vehicle for entities

I agree with the orbs acting as a vehicle for entities. They didn't reveal themselves in mine either, but there was definately a strong connection as if it was guiding me and leading the way. All I had to do was follow it.

ufo orbs

there was a recent ufo sighting involving a craft with amber orbs... adding to the idea that orbs are used for travel.

colour of orbs

Do the colours of the orb have a significance? Because I have heard a couple of different shades be mentioned before.

Not a dream

That's a mystic initiation, not a dream. It happens when the spirit world opens up to an individual, signaling that you're ready to begin such work.

I recommend that you look into cultivating this relationship!

You don't have to sell all your possessions and join an ashram; just a weekend course here and there will start you. If you have a strong faith tradition you can probably find one within it that speaks to you. Personally I prefer the 'belief-less' ones, like Shamanism and Buddhism, especially Tibetan.

You can also ignore this experience, and continue your life as it was. But spirit chooses you, not the other way around. So you'll find it comes back for you, with increasing insistence. :-)

great info, thanks!

i will definately try and establish further connection. I've been reading a lot of books on meditation and attainment of higher worlds and have been to a few meditation classes aswell. I'm most interested in the kundalini and chakras of Hindu fatih. The symbolism in the stories of the vedic texts and in Indian art is stellar. I have a few books on Buddhism aswell, but I'm not too familiar with Shamanic traditions although it's definately one I would love to explore. So I'm sure i have my foot in the right direction so far. I don't think there's anyway I could have ignored this experience.

some schools of shamanism

It's very good you're following up with actual classes: No amount of book knowledge will open the door for you. They'll show you where it is, but won't actually open it.

[The reason is that books speak to your intellect, which is only part of your psyche. It's two other parts of your psyche that actually open it & go through: your inner poet, and inner observer. In dreaming states this is easier because the dominant forces of intellect and willpower are disengaged ]

All mystic traditions deal with this in one way or another. The point is to do them, not learn about them. That can be done alone, but direct instruction is far more effective.

My feeling is that you should get a taste of shamanic journeying, to see what that work is like. It is basically a visualization exercise, very similar to your 'dream'. It's usually augmented with live or pre-recorded drumming at a specific rate, four to seven beats per second (the same as theta brain activity).

Michael Harner's book "The Way of the Shaman" describes it in how-to detail. His Foundation for Shamanic Studies (www.shamanism.org) lists many local workshops & practitioners, too.

Another school you should look into is The Four Winds (www.thefourwinds.com), founded by Alberto Villoldo. A good introductory book is his "The Four Insights". I find this teaching to be very effective, slightly too fast for me. :-)

Good luck!

Orbs, Initiations, Shamanism

In volume 3 of Grant Morrison's modern Shaministic supercomic, the Invisibles, it's suggested that some of the orbs that show up throughout the series are "abscesses" where one reality is bleeding into another and about to burst. Not that I think this is literal truth (though who knows, right?), but it could be kind of a helpful way to interpret your dream/initiation: the orb may serve as a point around which realities shift and you bleed from our reality into the initiatory reality? Morrison's work on the Invisibles is definitely worth checking out for psychonauts and similar travelers. Just rambling here...

Interestingly, I've also dreamt of orbs and (speaking of rough synchronisities) posted about them in the Shaman Dreams discussion just this morning...

I agree with David: This dream was an initiation into something larger, or at least an assertion by something relating to you that you have the potential to join that. You should definitely check it out.

And thanks to David for the Shamanistic suggestions--I'm very certain it will very helpful to my own journey and I'm grateful you suggested it. I'll be sure to check out shamanism.org.

Very Interesting:

I had an experience last Thursday night before reading this topic that correlates with this discussion. I saw a light that moved about and dripped out as if it were a fireworks display. It was not a dream but I was still the quasi dream-state and the lights were so fantastic and I was still fully conscious. It started out in the form of an orb. I more or less wrote it off and had forgotten about it. However, the next afternoon my wife started explaining to me about this amazing dream of bright lights and circles of light, and that made me start and wonder if something more transpersonal had taken place. This discussion has piqued my curiousity even further. I wonder what's afoot here! Thanks for sharing everyone...

I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't believed it.

One more note:

Just one more point is that the day leading up to the experience with the dripping or projecting lights from an orbital source, i had been listening to several discussions about "entities" for some odd reason I was drawn to the subject and listened to two podcasts just discussing the history of entities and humans (whatever they might be). I find it auspicious that several people here seem to have been having a similar experience right around the same time...

I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't believed it.

Have you ever seen the light?

One of the most important orb dreams I have had involved a crop circle. I found myself standing inside a crop circle surrounded by a group of orbs (bright spherical light sources). The orbs were communicating telepathically, and I was able to hear what they were saying, though I was clearly also an outsider. They seemed to regard me with amusement, but they also expressed surprise at something I had done, though they didn't say what. They seemed to reach an agreement and decided to award me an orb, it was a small white ball of light which was placed into my hands.
I agree with some of the posts above regarding shamanic journeying etc. I haven't found the right place for me yet though.
