re:admin's email about first meeting

I planned to attend the meeting but in the end I decided not to.

I wanted to attend because:
- I wanted to meet people like me

In the end I did not attend because:
- it was a long drive (the location is far south, I live and work far north)
- the topic of peak oil, while important, does not excite me

And let's not forget it's the holiday season - parties & shopping & busy social calendars.

Peak oil is indeed an important topic. However, there's not more that I can say or do about it other than either it's already happened, it's happening now, or it's going to happen sometime. Not sure what there is to discuss among people like me?

I'm not all that interested in apocalyptic "the sky is falling" panic talk ala 2012, and I'm guessing a discussion of peak oil among people like me could easily digress into that.

I'd be interested in talking about ways to live better, in more peaceful and enlightened ways. I'd be interesting in talking about how people like me get by and even thrive in environments that we don't necessarily consider peaceful or enlightened. I'd be interesting in doing things with people like me.

If the evolver.net organizers are posing topics for spore meetings, that's great as a way to start. But perhaps we need to expand the topics or find ways to make them more stimulating.

Other thoughts?

location......

I'm sorry I missed out on this - I intended to make it but it didn't seem the right timing for me. Strange that only one showed up....
And I will echo, I feel the location is pretty out there for Austin -is there a bus line that goes out? I live in South austin, and its 13 miles one way from my house - but, I hope the next meeting is more of a success and I will make it a point to be there unless otherwise occupied!
