January 2010 Evolver Boulder Spore: Give It Up

Evolver.net and Burners without Borders present:

Evolver Spores: Give It Up

Wed, January 20

Debt-based currencies controlled by closed syndicates of private banks are not the only way that humans can make an economy. Many tribal cultures organized themselves around an entirely different way of exchanging value: The gift. Where our financial system expertly moves resources from the many to the few, gift-based cultures like to share what they have – as writer Lewis Hyde noted, “The gift moves toward the empty place.” At a time when billions are enslaved by passionless work while inequity reaches new historic heights, we are seeing a postmodern revival of sharing and gifting, with examples ranging from the open source movement to the annual Burning Man festival.

In this Spore, we explore the abstract theory and practical dynamics of gifting, the challenges of implementing this innovative, yet archaic, way of getting what you want and wanting what you get. We invite fellow Evolvers to bring their precious gifts – whether it be witticisms or wood-carved totems to the Spore and spread them around. Local Spores can screen “Burn on the Bayou,” a mini-documentary chronicling Burners without Borders “gifting” efforts during seven months of relief work in the Katrina-battered Gulf Coast towns of Biloxi and Pearlington.

More than anything this gathering will be a warm sojourn into communal connectivity. Come join us as we introduce ourselves to the other beautiful members of the community and share the things that fluff our individual existential pillows. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for the gathering!

It was great connecting last night in the Spore. Good to see all that fresh and innovative energy come out of the woodworks. Look forward to more...and to the CAsh and check. Over and out.

Namaste my friends.

Sun in Aquarius....1 degree

Also...I almost forgot: When I returned home last night, I had noticed that the Sun just went into Aquarius. Coupled with the rest of the sky, it couldnt be more incredible. Aquarius is the sign of Spores germinating, envisioning a future, holding hands, turning into mycellium, and growing into One body, to create One fruit--thee mushroom. Or call it Love. Jupiter has also just moved into Pisces...translation????....Grab your flying carpet, because we are going for a ride. It's Alice in Wonderland in 3d, Alien contact, new Entheogenic plants/experiences, personal revelations, breakdown, and, of course, The flood.
