Calling all skeptics and practitioners to the circle, “do you believe in magic?”

Throughout history the word “magic” has been applied to topics ranging from spells and illusion, dousing and clairvoyance, to miracles and synchronicities. Shamanic traditions are said to use magic to imagine a new reality into being, while Western religions claim that the power of prayer can work beyond the realm of logical understanding. Today, quantum physics and string theory add to this mystery, creating new notions around the effects that thought and intentionality have on the world around us.

Tomorrow (10/27) in West Hollywood join Evolver LA in conversation with the evenings special guest speakers; gonzo journalist, Fortean explorer, and unrepentant bohemian, Skylaire Alfvegren; as well as Generation Hex Editor and the Mastermind behind the Global Alchemical Ultra-Culture, Jason Louv, as we explore magic from its western roots to its contemporary branches and fruits of the beyond. Followed by a participatory community ritual of manifestation for the empowerment of all sentient beings, and maybe even a new car. From Herstory to History we’ll open up to Yourstory and practice cooperatively reinventing Ourstory.

What to expect? (Even though ‘expectation’ is the root of all heartache.)

Enter the discussion on using magic for personal and cultural transformation, and exit the experience a candidate in life magic. Or atleast, depart as an unbiased psi-curious-Angelino. Skeptics are encouraged to attend. Adepts are permitted to bring their bag of tricks. And all cool non-physical beings and earthy hipsters are welcome to come experience a tolerant sacred space as we take a look over the edge of belief with magic on our minds.

As friend of the Spores don Jose Ruiz puts it in 'The 5th Agreement,' "Be Skeptical. But learn to listen."

Open minds and open hearts welcomed. All others will be permitted for the sake of being inclusive.

Regarding the Ritual:

It will begin at approximately 11:11, with a grounding, a calling in of the directions, and a casting of the sacred circle, then a drum and chanting ritual intended to deliver the power of intention to our night's focused manifestation, being the empowerment of all sentient beings, in whatever shape that takes. Considering the purpose of magic is to get results, we will collectively decide upon a specific intent for this manifestation that has an avenue of probability, through which chance can be bent towards our desire or goal.

All rituals will be grounded in a panpsychic neopagan-esque earth-based spirituality with a focus on attainable goals and positive personal and collective results. All energies, thoughts, emotions, and memories not in harmony with ALL in attendance experiencing a comfortable and delicious sovereignty of consciousness, will not be permitted on the premises. Evolver Los Angeles does not subscribe to any specific system of belief or philosophy, but is interested in crossovers, hybridizations, and creating the kind of space open for all people, emerging ideas, transformational practices, and proactive projects to coalesce. But for the sake of not annoying those who need clarification and or objectivity, we’re comfortable defining magic somewhere in-between the following qualifiers:

Skylaire Alfvegren has worked on cars for the Mexican mafia and roped cattle on the border of Area 51. Having witnessed her first UFO alongside Air Force personnel as a child, she began her writing career at seventeen with "File o' the Damned," a column of Fortean investigation for Fizz Magazine.

Not yet of legal drinking age, she was hired as a consultant for Strange Universe, the Fox Network's nationally-syndicated "paranormal news program," wrote regularly for the L.A. Weekly and built a laboratory to grow amanita muscaria.

Translated into nine languages and plastered helter skelter online, her gonzo reportage has appeared in countless magazines, books and journals. Descended from the Dark Elves of old Scandanavia, she is currently applying her vast knowledge of California — the esoteric, the dark, and the weird — to the small screen; and recently founded the League Of Western Fortean Intermediatists (L.O.W.F.I.).

Jason Louv s a copywriter, art director, brand strategist and creative director. He is currently the Creative Director of the Space Development Steering Committee, along with astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Edgar Mitchell, author Howard Bloom, and several members of NASA, where he is working on shifting the world energy grid to space-based solar power—and getting the human race back into space. In addition he has spent the last 10 years researching and practicing magic, traveling around the Near East and learning how to cloud minds.

He is also a writer and editor of such work as Disinfo's Generation Hex, and the Ultra-Culture Volume One.
