I heard about this event via facebook, but possibly also on a messageboard somewhere.
Based on the turn out I think that the publicity could have used better push and organization. This was a great location, very reasonable price, and there is a much broader base for this special interest group than I saw represented.
The time for each section was fine - though a designated event MC would have been good to keep things concrete, and all guests knowing the structure of the evening.
The speakers both had good material, but their talks became nebulous without anyone to announce them - And the speakers themselves did not in the beginning of their talks make clear the real focus of the information they gave:
Sweat Battery - should have explained first off that this was a concept piece, not a viable energy alternative per se, and should have discussed the concept MORE before showing the experiment.
Peak Oil - The main point in the end seemed to be that we need to be prepared for an entire paradigm shift. He should have begun with that point, and then supported why with his info on Peak Oil. Instead, people were a little lost and expecting him to deliver up solutions (which were not really a part of his talk at all).
Aloka's group exercise with breathing and group mantra was very good - simple enough for everyone, with a real effect (the tones created by the group were great)
It was clear that this group was somewhat inexperienced with hosting events...this will improve over time, but also I would consider involving someone who has specific experience with public events (certain details were not well forethought...stamp or bracelet at door? Where is a place for coats? No price list that I could see for the bar refreshments. No MC or announcement for the speakers or DJ. No posted schedule of the night's events. Ran low on change for the door, and the bar. I also recommend someone going around proactively to collect email addresses- and always preview your next gathering at the current one)
Enough free tips outta me : ) I enjoyed it and will attend Evolver stuff in the future.

pretty good
The space was great--I dug the ouija board floor and the cephalopod lamp. One thing that distracted a bit during the excellent chi kung meditation was the crowd noises coming up the stairway from the first floor. Dang art opening attendees, I shake my fist at you! (I kid). The sweat-to-energy thing was amusing. Alas, couldn't stay for all of the peak oil talk and whatever happened after that. Looking forward to attending another.

thank you!
thanks to the both of you for your constructive responses! getting articulated feedback is extremely helpful - I'll be sending out a link to a general post-Spore survey in the near future. i agree with all of your comments - we're working hard to have these things covered at future events. unfortunately right now we're working with limited resources, but i'm very optimistic that in time we'll be able to offer more streamlined events, ever-evolving to the community's needs!
oh yeah, and...
I think at these sort of things, those ridiculous "Hello My Name Is" nametags might actually come in handy...
