In response to Daniel's post:

I read through most all of the responses to this post, but did not see any regarding people who live in a major metropolitan area.
For myself, I'm going the internal route. Making sure that I am psychologically healthy (hope is vital), reading about the shift, working on my personal physical health, etc. However I have not begun to prepare in terms of sustainable living.
As a single person living in Manhattan, 250 miles away from any family, preparing for the sustainable survival leg of this journey is a bit... scary, perhaps? I am at peace with the potential of being separated forever from family members, however I am concerned about the social aspects of this downturn.
Having read the responses to Daniel's post (and are getting a little anxious about things), are any of you preparing? How? Do any of you have escape plans in case some serious social unrest goes down? What are some in-city resources you are using? What does your social sphere of your survival look like?

Don't be afraid
I think the most important thing is to not be afraid or anxious of the future... that may put a damper on your present.
But I have wondered the same thing, having recently moved here from West Michigan where big city riots are not a concern. I've come to believe that the majority of people are good and are willing to help others (as long as it doesn't impinge on their well being). If worse comes to worse, the positive and strong willed will step forward in unison. Otherwise, there'll still be plenty of foliage, squirrels, and birds to eat on your pilgrimage back to your family.... ;-]
