I thought it might be helpful if we could share information about other upcoming events that parallell the work we're starting.

I just heard that Quiet Riot (http://www.quietriot.org/), who seem to be a motivational comedy duo who bring a bit more substance to the corporate seminar (from what I can tell from their video), are doing two upcoming Transition Town events.

The first, Introduction to Transition Towns, is "a fast-paced overview of peak oil, climate change, and catalyzing your town's local economy and reducing its carbon footprint by 12 respectful and festive Transition principles." A networking event. I'll probably check this out.
Thursday, 7/9, at the Academy of Sciences. 6-9PM, free
http://transitioncommunities.eventbrite.com

The second is a weekend long workshop in Glenside- "An in-depth exploration of Transition Towns and the skill sets needed to encourage the collective genius of your community to build local resilience, reduce carbon and create a more joyful, connected, and healthy future. "
July 17-18. Info at www.quietriot.org

I just got confirmation that we'll have a guest from Transition Town Media, PA at our first Spore!

Nikola Tesla Energy Independence Celebration- Free Speakers

Here's another event worth passing along: the Nikola Tesla Inventors Club is sponsoring a weekend of lectures, presentations, exhibits, movies, music to celebrate and promote efforts toward sustainable energy solutions (beyond the standard wind/solar/bio options). The events on Saturday and Sunday are free. Since it seems inevitable that we'll be talking about energy as a future Spore theme, this could be some great stimulation for discussion.

The schedule will take a long time to write out, and I need to not be sitting in front of a computer anymore, so check it out here: http://nikolateslaclub.com/energy2009/

Short version- it's this weekend, 7/11 and 7/12. Exhibits and conference are at Independence Hall, speakers are at the Rittenhouse Ethical Society.

I'll probably check out the speakers on Sunday. If anyone is interested, hit me up.

darn...

I'm really bummed that i missed this last weekend. How was it?

Tesla

Greg,

I didn't notice your comment until just now- I caught the tail end of an evening of speakers interested in Tesla. I definitely learned a lot about the man that I didn't know, all delivered in a framework that accomodates many other interests. The undeniable highlight was getting to hold a tube of inert gas next to (but not touching) a Tesla coil and seeing it light up. A large part of Tesla's project was unlocking the source of energy that is everpresent and abundant. No wonder his reputation is so sullied.

Hope to meet you at one of the Spores.

Peace,

Rob

Transition Town Speaker

Nice work Rob!

Thrilled that you were able to snag someone from Transition Town to speak...I missed the discussion last Thursday, so I'm looking forward to hearing what they have to share...

Best,
