The theme for the next Evolver Regional Spore will be:
"Shamanic Panic"
In tribal societies, shamans are healers and visionary leaders who go through dangerous initiations to gain knowledge from the spirit world. Modern culture repressed and dismissed shamanism as archaic and irrational. Today, our society seems increasingly irrational, unable to change its course in the face of looming environmental and economic catastrophe. Meanwhile, shamanic practices such as soul retrieval, journeys with sacred plants, and ecstatic dance are gaining popularity. What meaning and value do these techniques have for us today? During an evening of 'Shamanic Panic', we will discuss, experience, and explore.
For the Portland Evolver Spore, this event still has yet to be organized. Perhaps it would be best to simply host this event at my place (NE 116th and Prescott), or we could meet someplace else closer in to the city. Is there anyone here who would like to help with the planning of this event, specifically, finding qualified and/or interesting individuals to speak, finding media, or some other aspect? In any event, I think it would be a good idea to plan to get together next month (around the 15th, I believe) to create a good habit of making these meetings a place to meet other individuals in the Portland area with similar interests. It doesn't have to be everything at once, but it can begin with something.

My Girlfriend and I have been wanting to get involved in helping create or gather a Portland spore. We always saw the list of every city in America that had a spore and we could not for the life of us figure out why Portland did not have one. So i am really happy to be reading this post. I believe and practice Shamanism to the best of my knowledge and what i can. I would love to learn from others and help bring more healers into the community. I feel we have a lot of work to do my friend and we just have to find the community willing to get a momentum going. My girlfriend and i will be in town until the 30th of august the we head to Burning Man to learn from a greater model of society. We will be back in town after the event.
