New Topic: Thought For Food

I see they announced a new Spore topic, Thought for Food. I personally find this to be a very interesting topic, much more so than last months.
The effects of factory-farming of agriculture and livestock is pretty common knowledge nowadays, hopefully, and we are just beginning to grasp it's detriments upon our bodies and environment. If some of us are not aware of this hopefully it will come out in the meeting so everyone can be up to date.
After regurgitating the present goings-on, perhaps we could discuss something a bit deeper.
At the last meeting I noticed alot of healthy, vegetarian/vegan dishes, all very delicious. I'm sure our members put alot of their time and love into making them. I personally am leaning towards vegetanarism, and giving up my current omnivore-istic dietary lifestyle. Though presently i go to great lengths to ensure the meat i eat is not grain-fed, the veggies and fruits are organic, and the processed isn't hydrogenated or corn syruped out, i find it hard to take the plunge into a meat-less diet.
It's a disciplined approach towards a healthier lifestyle, and I for one find it a bit difficult, being a single guy. The last thing I want to do is have to devote time to whipping up something in the kitchen, and the thought of eating processed veggie burgers and whatnot is just gross.
So how do some of us do it? I would be very interested to know. In our tightly-wrapped lives, how do we find the time, make the time, to exercise a healthy dietary program?
Other sub-topics that may be of some mention are the practice of buying from our local organic farmers (very important), permaculture and co-ops.
Hello? Anyone there?

I like to
sprout chickpeas, lentils and quinoa. It's raw living protein and requires only soaking and washing. The cost of organic lentils is 1-2 dollars a pound, the protein and iron content is close to that of meat. I became vegetarian only after finding the lentil, my good friend.
I'm going to be out of state
I'm going to be out of state during this Evolver Spore, but I want to say that I find it to be an incredibly important and critical issue. I'm sorry I won't be there to hear ideas. I will be in NYC.
If I may contribute some roughly brainstormed thoughts here:
If we prepare ourselves for threats to food security solely in terms of individual survival, then in a crisis situation there will be an inevitable conflict between those who have food and those who do not, and that kind of desperation can inspire violence. If there is violent conflict over resource competition, nobody wins. Therefore, in addition to things like urban homesteading, we need to create a hyper-localized infrastructure for growing and processing food.
Another idea: Nourishment is not just what we put in our mouths. Perhaps each of us has a special calling that will feed the whole, metaphorically. Since food production is time consuming and highly specialized work, I would not argue that everyone needs to be involved in it, since we still can barter and each of us has gifts and talents that the community needs to prosper.
raw diet
i dont know about vegen or vegetarian, but ive been on the raw only foods diet for a little while now and find myself alot more energized, stronger, and sleeping better.
i love Meat so herbivore life styles are out of the question for me, of course try to buy local grown, and organic fruit and veggies, and for meat i usually go to the local butcher shop and buy fresh beef or venison, sometimes lamb or pork. there are ways to prepare meats safe for eating raw, you can look them up online, usually involves marinating them in salts and oils, or acidic juces over night.
youll hear alot that you can get parasites or bacteria unless its fully cooked but thats a bunch of crap. alot of my russian family/friends have been eating raw meats/fish prepared that way for centries unharmed. fresh raw salmon or shrimp soaked in lime juce is delicious!
When you cook food, even vegetables, it kills all of its good nutrients and enzymes, in essence hippy lingo, killing its soul.
remember, you are what you eat, have respect for what you put in your bodies.
also PS- its autumn, and ive been finding tons of delicious edible mushrooms that grow here in the PNW locally, you should research a little and know what your looking for before you go out picking, besides just edible, some are deadly, some are wayy to much fun :P
