The Healing Journey

Hello Evolvers!

September is upon us and that means it's almost time for our next
spore-- "The Healing Journey". This will take place on Wednesday
September 16th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. This will again be a potluck,
so bring a dish to share or a $3-$5 donation. Be aware that we are at
a new location. A wonderful woman named Jessica has opened up her
beautiful house to use. Her address is 4134 N Borthwick Ave Portland,
OR 97217.
Our night will center around the fact that as people are
discovering the limitations of Western medicine, we are witnessing an
explosion of interest in alternative and holistic therapies.
Individuals are taking their health into their own hands, and
empowering themselves to learn and change.
Because so many of us are in the field of "alternative" health,
there will be a lot of resources to use and a lot of knowledge within
our community. Instead of having an "expert" speaker at our meeting,
we will instead come up with several themes to discuss, and (more
importantly) come up with ways to put our ideas into action.
Let's use the discussion function on evolver.net-- go ahead and throw
out some ideas and let's figure out what we want to do!

Some themes that have already come up are--

-- Can (or should) we make a distinction between an individual's
health and the health of the community or world?

-- How should we view the individual's responsibility toward his or her health?

See ya there!

There are so many ways to

There are so many ways to heal! Cranial-sacral, acupuncture, herbs, massage, hypnosis, energy work, and so on. No one way can address all the diseases of society, and perhaps, no one approach can address all the diseases of an individual, but somewhere along the path of healing, it does seem (to me) that the whole process funnels down to a single point; namely, the decision by the individual (or group) TO HEAL and BE HEALED. Without that, the process as a whole can only move like a frog a-walkin'. Impeded from within (no offense to frogs ...).

Now, for an individual or group to really DECIDE to heal, some real factors need to be present, and that is certainly a topic for discussion I would be interested in pursuing. Any thoughts/ideas? I look forward to seeing you all very soon :)

a good question

Can (or should) we make a distinction between an individual's
health and the health of the community or world?

As individuals we live in a world historically beset in tragedy, through organized religeon and failed politics. Society carries a lifestyle that is becoming evermore ecologically damaging as each day passes, and as each day passes people use more and more fossil fuels, and rape the earth to carry their existence. The majority of our people are being fed by factory farms whose products are tainted with so many differnt chemicals, whose only purpose is to make more food at a faster rate to feed an evergrowing population.
They say ignorance is bliss, it must be. Most people do have half a brain, and are on some level aware of the damage that is going on. Perhaps they don't want to look into it any further and put the pieces of the puzzle together to figure out just how this affects the health of the individual as well as the world- for this would mean a less sedentary lifestyle.
So Can (or should) we make a distinction between an individual's
health and the health of the community or world?
I believe we can. If an individual carries a small footprint, with respect to nature and it's fellow people is all well and good, this i believe in. But more importantly the distinction stems from not only living it but helping to save it - spreading the message of our health to awaken the lethargical beast living within the majority.
I look forward to meeting everyone on the 16th.
