Faces of Nature

The Cultural Awareness Foundation and Grupo de Capoeira Regional do Brasil present world-renowned Brazilian dancer and choreographer Rosangela Silvestre. She will be presenting her solo show “Faces of Nature” and teaching Orixá and Silvestre technique dance workshops at the Bahia Brazil Art Center in Southeast Portland.

The Silvestre Technique is a language of dance technique based in the four elements of Nature – earth-water-air-fire, and the three triangles of the body: intuition for the inspiration; balance for the improvement of the body skills; and expression, for the interpretation of the movement. Orixa dance movement is a unique experience of symbols-in-motion, where traditional sacred dance becomes at once a modern art form and a spiritual experience.

Rosangela Silvestre, a native of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil is gaining global recognition as one of the great visionaries of world dance for her comprehensive training system known as The Silvestre Technique, and for her innovative choreographies. Since 1982, Silvestre has set choreography on Brazil's premiere dance company, Bale Folklorico da Bahia as well as Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company, Ballet Hispanico Repertory Company, American Academy of Ballet, Roots of Brazil, DanceBrazil, Viver Brasil, etc. She has rigorously researched dance and music in India, Egypt and Cuba as part of her ever-evolving and eclectic movement palette.

Solo performances by Rosangela will be followed by a Capoeira roda by the Portland-based Grupo de Capoeira Regional do Brasil.
