Howdy Evolver SLC,

My name is Nate and I am fresh off the plane from Baltimore. My childhood buddy moved out here several years ago, and now I have been offered a biotechish job so I packed my junk and shipped on out.

I see that theres an interesting sounding Spore meeting around the corner, so I expect to be there to see if I can start growing some social roots of some sort, get a feel for the people out here who might be well aligned with my interests and see where things go from there.

Can anyone suggest anything along the following lines, or beyond?

- sweet local businesses (bookstores, coffee places, food stores)
- places to meet evolver/RS friendly types?
- museums or sweet things to check out?

Anything?

Thanks! Maybe see you around!

Nate

Hi Nate

This is Terra

We'll be having an Evolver Spore meeting next Wednesday March 31st 7-9pm at Alchemy Coffee (1700 South 390 East) in Salt Lake - this is a good place to meet other Evolver/RS types and also a sweet local coffee place.

I'd recommend the Utah Arts Alliance Gallery on 127 South Main Street - right now they have an interesting photography project up - April 9th a recycled art project called "Plastic People" by Derek Dyer will be opening (that's a good one). UAA Gallery is in the same place as Contemporary Art, across the street from The Leonardo offices and near a TRAX station - so you can park on the street or take advantage of the local transit system. A few doors south on the same block (from UAA Gallery) is a great local cafe called Vasuvios - delicious vegan chilli - but they serve all types (carnivores welcome) and they make a good cup of coffee. Also right there is the Gallivan Center and you're not far from the Temple grounds- if you feel like walking around a bit.

I'd also recommend the Gilgal Gardens - a great historic folk art destination right here in SLC - it's behind Wonder Bread at 749 East 500 South http://www.gilgalgarden.org/.

Hope to meet you soon - welcome to the City of Salt :) ~Terra

Hi Nate...
I highly recommend a book store called The Golden Braid. love it! And have you checked out the downtown library? It's pretty amazing. I also like to hang at Liberty Park and I think they have drum circles on Sundays. (I've never actually been) And if you really want to see something great, I recommend taking a drive towards Pineview Dam and a little further aways, Kausey Dam. One of my favorite places in the entire world! Plus you can cliff jump.
Happy Wandering!
