In anticipation of our Visionary Art Spore on Nov 17th, I've compiled some short videos and links to four of my 'top of mind' Visionary or Outsider artists.
We'll meet at Alchemy Coffee (1700 S 400E) in Salt Lake, 7PM on Wednesday November 17th to discuss Visionary Art as it affects modern culture and society.
This is a montage of art by Alex Grey set to an interview with the artist:

Visionary Culture Post Spore

Sunny Strasburg offered a 45 minute presentation on Jungian symbolism, big dreams and her process of creating art out of her dream imagery. Following her presentation, she took a few questions. Xkot Toxsik spoke briefly, introducing his art work. Xkot had 10 canvas paintings of his 22 Esoteric Arcana series as well as 78 original collages from his deck. Following the slideshow/presentation by Sunny and brief intro by Xkot, everyone was invited to socialize and check out the art. Others brought and shared posters, books, personal art and inspirations.
We had a good gathering of close to 40 people. The cafe was a fine venue for this size of crowd, every seat was full with some standing. Sunny's presentation lasted about 35 minutes, with 15 minutes of questioning. She was given careful attention and many people commented afterwords on how great it was to have 'this kind of thing' happening in Salt Lake. After Sunny closed, Xkot spoke briefly, introducing his art. The bulk of the crowd mingled for around 30 minutes, staying until 8:30p, then slowly dissipated. By 9:30 there were about 15 people left. Alchemy closed at 10 and we all moved on.
It's good to welcome familiar and new faces for these events! I plan to stick with the cafe as our spot through the winter/cold months - the space is open and fits about our usual numbers. I'll continue to send out 'save the date ' two week reminders before the event.
Next up, Dec 8th Evolver Salt Lake Book Club to discuss Graham Hancock's 'Entangled,' "Ria & Leoni, meet across time in a battle to defeat Sulpa - as their paths entwine the battle begins." We'll be at Alchemy Coffee 8pm - see you there!
