Greetings fellow Evolvers,

I just joined the San Diego SPORE and was hoping to break the ice on getting some things going with it. I am moving to the area sometime after July and was wondering if the group had yet to meet or if there was an interest at this time. I know some things need to colonize first before fruiting, and with so few people that looks like it may be the case. Anyway I just wanted to break the seal and encourage you all to join in the conversation, I look forward to getting out there later this summer and hopefully getting to meet some or all of you.

Peace

Sam

I am in San Diego and hoping

I am in San Diego and hoping to get some spores going down here soon. I plan to attend one of the LA spores next week to meet with those fine folks and see what's up. Perhaps in March, I can host the spore at my place around a bonfire. Let's meet up and chat, SD evolvers. ;)

Joshua

Thats a great start! Is anyone interested in meeting in March? A bonfire sounds like a good idea and thanks to Joshua for opening up his place. I can't make it (long swim from Japan) but I would hope that some of you by that time may be ready to meet.

Joshua: please say hi to Baza Novic for me in L.A. if you see him at the spore, he's also good at putting these together and organizing (holding space) so he might have some tips or info that would be helpful for moving the San Diego group forward.

UPDATE 1: I emailed Marissa Smith, from the Boise Spore as well for some advise on how to get started, and I know Indigo_A is getting some experience right now with her SPORE in Phoenix. She has also heard from Jonathan Phillips this week and has some info. I think if we keep a lessons learned board or save a progress blog in the topics section of the group discussions it may be helpful for everyone to know where we are at and jump in were ever they can contribute. Kinda a group think or post it board to collaborate.

SD Spore

Hey all... I'm psyched to read these responses. Thanks Sam for getting the ball rolling. I tried to set up Evolver San Diego a couple of months ago but got sidetracked with life. I've spent the last couple of months renovating a mid century house near Solana Beach/Del Mar which we are turning into an art gallery/performance space and are beginning to make connections with the local art scene and hope to have our first show sometime in April. We are currently working out the details, but our goal is to be a hub for evolver artists and also act as a spore meeting spot. Our art studio/guest house can also accommodate guest speakers from out of town. We are located near the 5 in Solana Beach off of Lomas Santa Fe. The house we are renting is going to be torn down sadly by the owners in 4-5 years but this gives us the ability to use the house as a canvas for design/art inspirations. We have a large deck surrounded by mature trees which is great for outdoor meetings, films, etc... Its a little oasis we are calling "a ship in the woods". I'm a designer/artist working on a screenplay geared toward the Evolver crowd and want to get more involved. I have some friends who have also shown interest. Joshua let me know if you want to chat and get some people together for a casual soiree? Ciao! RJ

sounds awesome, i wish you abundance - sounds like you are on the right track =P
look forward to meeting up in the future.

awesome

RJ, your place sounds amazing! Can't wait to see it. Let's plan tentatively to get a spore rolling next month (march) either at your place in Del Mar or my place in Oceanside. This week I'll hit up the long beach spore and hopefully chat with Baza Novak about managing these things. I'll keep everyone posted and we'll try to get something together, even if just an informal meet and greet. Glad to know there's interest in SD (of all cities for Evolvers, SD seems such a likely candidate, no? lol). Take care!

Lets get the ball rolling

I know we can keep waiting but why? Why hold back on doing great things? Josh and RJ, you guys are f-ing awesome for offering up your digs. Can we all come to a consensus now on who is available and when to have a meeting. I am still out for the first meeting or two but should be available in August to do the bonfire, or sit down . Can everyone else in the Group shoot out their availability or interest in moving forward at this time. I am really stoked about this thing and what it can become, If you need to borrow on my enthusiasm please feel free and start sqwuaking :) I would love to hear from all of you!

I've been super busy lately

I've been super busy lately but I'd love to get together. If RJ can host at his place in La Jolla, I'll make sure to make it this month. Let me know. Thanks, all!

Summer Approaches...

I'm also hoping to participate in the SD Spore.

As this semester wraps up, I am hoping to begin the transition to BRC prep. Specifically, I'm working toward organizing the efforts and resources to support an art car project this year. We just moved to a new place in Clairemont that will offer (a little bit) more space for such creative endeavors, but I am also open to lending my skills to any larger scale projects at RJs Solana Beach space...

Please keep me in the loop for any gatherings, or upcoming community projects, as I will do the same.

Blessings,

RT

Is free time decadent? Leisure a privilege?
The industrial revolution, automation and modernization all offered wild optimism for a future where every person's free time would expand to allow engagement in the highest levels of intellectual and spiritual pursuits. Neo-Capitalism and new technology offer similar dreams of expanded freedom and fantasy life.
But who exactly is living the good life? Do we live the good life or consume it? Where in our current economic and political chaos is happiness to be located - cocooned somewhere in a web of success and failure, tragedy and satisfaction?

If free time is not conceived as an absence, a lack of work or responsibility, but the location of meaningful existence by which all else is to be measured then we may prepose it as paramount - an inalienable right whose relationship to contemporary political and economic models is problematic at the least.
This inaugural show at 'The Archive - A Ship In The Woods' looks to explore experimental leisure - the ownership of one's own time, body and hence being.

We are please to present the work of 9 artists and a catalogue essay by James Krone.

Life, love, liberty and leisure - Seriously.
Please join us for The Pursuit of Happiness.

Sincerely,
The Archive - A Ship In The Woods
