Anyone interested in meeting up and having discussions regarding things we've been thinking about/reading? Hypothesis', fears, ways forward. Group coping in the midst of this sad times. Kind of like the McKenna, Sheldrake, Abraham Trialogues.
I'm deeply influenced by and interested in the works and subjects of:
Terence McKenna, Carl Jung, Jean Gebser, Joseph Campbell, Daniel Pinchbeck, Graham Hancock, Amit Goswami, Psychology, Philosophy, Religion/Spirituality, Quantum Physics, Psychedelics, etc.
I'm in the SF Bay Area.
Thanks

If I may offer an idea for a setting
My friend Ann Steinberg is having a show of new photography of hers at the Zughaus Gallery on Friday, June 25. I'll be at the event as the DJ for the night, but I think you would really enjoy the space as a possible jumping off point for future conversations in this vein. I will be distracted, but another night I'd be intrigued to join. There is a big outdoor deck right by the train tracks if you want to let some ideas flow. It's a free event, so stop by if you can.
Friday, June 25: 7:30 pm - 2 am
Zughaus Gallery, 1306 3rd st, Loft # 2, Berkeley, CA

Seems like life is infinitely complex and mysterious.
My yoga books says: "We cannot explain the origins of reason in our own minds. The questions that persist are: What is the purpose of this life? What is its meaning and goal? What happens before and after?" Don't hurt yourself trying to answer these questions. Or maybe I'm the bad advice guy and these questions should be pondered night after night.
I wouldn't think that these are sad times unless you really want to. Rather, go and create a philosophy where life's events are accepted without hesitation. Personally, I feel like I'm living in the part of history where we wake up, and waking up and experiencing life for the first time. I can at least say for myself that my experiences could not have happened 100 years ago and nothing (nope, nothing!) from back then can compare, either, and that in the future this waking up process will be less of a potentiality (either highly probable or improbable). Okay, so you probably saying, this guy is nuts, there's crazy and unfair things happening all around us and we can't do anything about it. Well, it's all sacred and awesome if you look at it the right way. All of it.
Realistically, our only hope seems to be a global consciousness shift. It looks like this is something really far off in the distance, but we could wake each other up pretty fast. Maybe it will be as simple as people leading by example and sustainability becoming mainstream... :)
We destroyed a lot of the world already and maybe we'll crash and burn and lose what comforts and freedoms we have, but its fine if that was meant to happen. We are all one and the separation is an illusion. Its totally fine if humanity dies. (I'm not really fine with that option and will resist that particular outcome until the day I die, but the whole ''what's going to happen to us?'' worrying game is a waste of time. Humans are the only serious threat to this planet so we ought to stop being so crazy. I'm working to change things as hard as I am because the problems are so deep.. And don't worry, fear is a product of the thinking mind that you can turn if off with some practice or a single experience. What's going to happen in 2012? Something interesting, but nothing to be afraid of (unless you fear death).

Thanks for the reply
Thanks for the reply Alex.
How old is that Yoga book?
Yes. Little children getting blown to bits in Afgahistan via drone attacks is a miraculous divine happening! Go with the flow....**
**the sarcasm may be hard to detect via written text on the net. So I'll clarify that I'm not serious, in case any genius' out there thought otherwise**
I think hope/faith may be a little bit of an inhibition. I think some people feel that change has to happen, will happen, that we'll make it through - and that we can ride along on that gravy train. Though that may be (that we may all simultaneously change when the time is of the utmost peril, or something like that) but I don't think it will happen, and potentially justifiably so, without effort. And not effort to dispel what we consider "bad" - like fear, that may only be a perpetuation of a dualistic/dichotomous lens that we currently seem to perceive through. To try and distance ourselves from the aspects of ourselves - habits, characteristics that keep us separate, without understanding those aspects within ourselves won't help us. We can try deceive ourselves, whispering mantras to hold the flood gates at bay but the debt will collect that way.
I think the idea of the Hero's Journey is very relevant. We all have to undergo that process. Though that doesn't necessarily mean a external journey/adventure, though it may feel like or have some of those aspects. But of an internal journey. One of maturation, to borrow a phrase; "Be all that you can be." That means dealing with our personal and thus collective nativities, neurosis.
A lot of interest in different world religions and spiritual traditions has been a good thing, showing people are feeling something/interested in a different/deeper aspect/way of life, but the "threat" or downfall of that is that people can make the mistake (which may be part of the process too) of "Spiritual bypassing."

We can get too caught up with the destination and not the journey. Wanting the "reward" without the effort - with 24hr abs videos, we want results without the effort. Real growth I think requires going deep within, leaving nothing unexamined, easier said than done of course, but it is necessary.
I think 2012 and that hoopla is besides the point. I'm interested in the different ideas around it, and have read books about it but I think the date as a time of something to come is not too important. We can sit around with our thumbs up or asses praying, stretching, chanting, hoping that our chakras all align on Dec. 21st but the work that should and is beckoning to be done is now. There is no other moment then now...
Sorry if I'm coming across as a dick : )
