This is a reminder that our second monthly event will be this Wednesday July 22nd at 6:00 PM to 8:30ish. We will meet at the Community Room in the Main Library. Please inform anyone that may be interested, so they can attend too.
As we develop our local Evolver, what I am interested in as the Santa Fe coordinator is making our local Spore relevant to the Santa Fe area. One might ask, “Why bother being connected to a larger network?” As I organize these first few events, I am getting a lot of energy and support by being a part of a larger, likeminded group of regional coordinators. This and by being on the same page, synchronizing event themes and times, for the monthly events is a great means of support. On a larger scale, we can cross pollinate each others communities as we grow and begin to thrive.
I want to let people know that we are by no means confined to these monthly events and if you have any ideas for extra and more locally appropriate happenings, please bring them up either online or at the monthly events.
I think that our potential to thrive as a community, regardless of any economic collapse or any other crisis, lies in our getting together and getting to know each other. As individuals and as groups or agencies, we should connect as likeminded entities. There may be groups already, who are trying to connect like this. We would do well to connect with them, as many connecting points in the network, the better. The more we do on our own, not waiting for someone else to come and do it for us, the more we will thrive.
If you are not yet familiar with background info to what I am talking about here, I have cut and pasted some relevant info that describes what Evolver is, where it is from and what its potentials are . . .
About reality Sandwich
http://www.realitysandwich.com/
Reality Sandwich is a web magazine for this time of intense transformation. Our subjects run the gamut from sustainability to shamanism, alternate realities to alternative energy, remixing media to re-imagining community, holistic healing techniques to the promise and perils of new technologies. We hope to spark debate and engagement by offering a forum for voices ranging from the ecologically pragmatic to the wildly visionary (which, to our delight, sometimes turn out to be the one and the same). Counteracting the doom-and-gloom of the daily news, Reality Sandwich is a platform for voices conveying a different vision of the transformations we face. Our goal is to inspire psychic evolution and a kind of earth alchemy.
Reality Sandwich has merged media with a social network that facilitates connections between the members of our international community. As our features present visionary ideas and new tools for sustainable living, the social network will support our members in using these new concepts and techniques in their own lives, as well as facilitating discussions about their own journeys of discovery.
What is evolver?
http://www.evolver.net/
The grand vision of the Evolver network is a bold and daring one: to create an international alternate social structure of evolvers who share their talents, resources, wisdom, and passions in hopes of building a better world. The Evolver Regionals are a microcosm of the larger structure, providing a space for a diverse array of individuals, groups, and organizations to connect and collaborate in transforming their local communities. It's a unique hub that can bring many different tribes together under one umbrella -- from bicycle co-ops and yoga studios to neighborhood gardens and urban homesteads to open source programmers and local currency groups.
Three Basic Features of an Evolver Regional
• Regional Groups Page: Each Regional has its own group page for Evolvers to meet, discuss, make announcements, host resources, and plan and post events.
• Evolver Socials: Each month Evolvers within the network meet in their nearest city to socialize, organize, create, and play. The socials may take place in coffee shops, books stores, churches, community centers and other places. They may also feature a talk, film screening, music, workshop or more. We suggest inviting other organizations for these socials to help connect different communities and build your overall network. Make sure to take down everyone’s email addresses.
• Evolver Regional Activities & Events: As Evolver communities grow, we encourage them to create groups that can produce events in their local community. This can be anything from hosting film screenings to creating organic gardens to facilitating re-skilling workshops to organizing consciously-minded parties or retreats, depending on the community’s needs.
Ultimately, we hope that each Evolver regional becomes its own self-organizing community with diverse working groups, circles, and committees that develop different projects, events, gatherings, and other activities while evolving with the community's needs.
Why “Evolver Spores”?
Spores can land anywhere, find the right spot, and quickly develop an aboveground and underground network that supports many types of life through symbiosis. Evolver Spores are community meet-ups, creative salons, hubs of ecological activation and social inspiration. Evolver Spores bring people and groups together who share the ideal of a more beautiful and equitable world, and help them find the collaborators and tools they need to manifest their vision.
Evolver Spores: Spreading the Network
The theme of our first Evolver Spore gathering on June 17 will be “Spreading the Network”. We ask you to consider what it will take to build a grassroots network of awakening consciousness and pragmatic optimism during this time of economic meltdown, environmental assault, and endless war.
How do we communicate with people who are constrained by old belief systems and thought patterns? How do we open their minds and their hearts to a positive vision of transformation, that sees industrial farming replaced by organic permaculture, centralized banking that creates artificial scarcity supplanted by local currencies and alternative ways of exchanging value, militarism replaced by a new global movement of nonviolent activism, and so on? At the same time, how do we excite and involve people who are receptive to new ideas but not yet active in working for change?
How do we make positive possibilities seem as tangible and powerful to people as the negative and fear-based visions pushed by the mainstream media? How do we grow, develop, and spread a resilient network that outmodes the current blockades through direct action and inspired activism? And how can we bring together diverse groups and organizations working for change, creating new collaborative networks that improve our communities.
We are currently developing the Evolver Spore concept, and are very interested in your ideas, responses, and reactions.
If you are interested please do get in touch in some way so we can start planning more relevant events.
Thank you,
Dennis
