"Sacred Ruckus" anyone?

The upcoming September Spore meeting on "Spiritual Activism" is happening soon (information below) - and I would like to propose an idea for it...
Friends of mine and I have been practicing our own genre of spiritual activism in the form of "positive protesting" or "Sacred Ruckus" (conscious, expressive, improvisational, costumed street performances) for a couple months now... and the recent addition of signs stating things like "Honk if you love life!" "Speak your Truth!" and "Express yourself!" have really added to the interactiveness of the whole thing... It's been great fun, and we have enough wacky costumes for about 15 people... To do this right, spore participants (you) would be encouraged to bring masks and costumage to add to the mayhem... And we could have a sign-painting party a couple days beforehand. (I have all the brushes and posterboard for this, we'd just need a little more paint and some creativity : )
I envision a meetup / dressup spot somewhere in a busy area (Indigo Fusion/U District?) from 6:00-6:30. Followed by a riotous parade from 6:30-7:30 (perhaps with circle song handouts ready for singing? and dEfiNitEly a video camera or two...) All this "sacred ruckus" would end in a parade back to home base, followed by a recorded discussion of the evening's events, and snacks, from 7:30-8:30... (and yes, it would hAvE to start early, as sunset on the 15th will be @ 7:21pm)
WHAT DO YOU THINK???
Personally, I say we bust out the Rubbermaids, shake off the dust, and bring BURNINGMAN into the streets of SEATTLE! Sacred Decompression-Style!!! What'da ya say? This could attract a lot of positive attention, discussion, video footage, and follow-up actions...
Sounds like pretty textbook results for a Spiritual Activism project to me!!!
***EMAIL LISA DeMARS or COMMENT BELOW if you have any questions or suggestions, as I will be away at the Burn until the 10th... LET'S HAVE SOMETHING BREWING when all of us get back in town!!! I personally know of about 10 people that I can almost guarantee will be there in full garb and rearing to go!!! Hope this blooms into something of interest - talk soon - Benjamin.

EVOLVER SPORES: "SPIRIT IN ACTION"
Wednesday evening, Sept. 15th
A profound power arises when heart-centered spirituality and direct activism unite. The most visionary and revolutionary figures of our time were suffused with this enlightened energy, leading peaceful movements to victory against grievous injustices. In a world beset by destructive corporatism, political tyranny, and meaningless war, spiritual activism strives to alchemize and transform oppression into compassion while making positive change on our planet.
Embodied in Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of satyagraha and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “non-violent resistance,” spiritual activism offers an effective and inspirational strategy against the worst offenses of dominator culture. In celebration of this topic, 40+ Evolver Regionals and 300+ EarthDance locations will join forces in a Global Festival for Peace, uniting our energies with talks, action, music, meditation and more. On September 18th, we will host a worldwide Prayer for Peace at 7pm EST, Midnight GMT.

"absurdist street theater" as awakening tool
sounds like fun. i think this street-level interaction is what is needed most to break people out of their shells these days. In London, Charlie Vietch has started a similar project- called the Love Police, which is what he calls "absurdist street theatre" and involves holding signs that say things like "Everything Is OK" and delivering positive and satirical messages to people on the streets through a megaphone. I think that these public spaces in between work, home, and shopping, where people walk with their heads down and avoid eye contact with each other, is one of the most important arenas for the global awakening. by all means, let's jolt seattle out of its daydreams with a little random public chaos. anything out of the ordinary to make people realize they are more than just worker drones and the world is their playground. if I can make it, I'm there.
