The Resilience Revolution
In our globalized world, the basic survival needs of many communities
are precariously out of their hands. Coping with Natural disasters such
as the recent earthquakes and floods, man-made catastrophes such as oil
spills and the disparity among local and global communities requires our
personal, community and social resilience. In a world fraught with
uncertainty, an empowered and resilient local community is the best
defense.
Our speaker is Briana Barrett, a local Resilience leader affiliated with
the Seattle Transition Movement, SCALLOPS, Sustainable Greenwood/Phinney
and the most local level of SoZoo. Briana’s experience in Resilience is
founded in self awareness gained through multiple intercontinental
emigrations. Each transition demanded that she acquire new language and
immerse herself in new culture all the while integrating personal
transformation. She realizes that each experience of “loss” was an
opportunity to enrich the new with the old.
How would our community react if it suddenly had to fend for itself?
What are some vital tools and techniques we can implement today to
prepare for tomorrow’s challenges?
This Spore will be a practical exploration of what resources we have
immediately available to us through Personal, Community and Social
Resiliency. We will get to know each other through a mapping exercise
and by taking an Internal and External Resource Inventory. Briana will
elaborate on how Assisted Synchronicity and Joy are the true fuel that
drives our society, our local communities and each individual in them.
