Like more than 400,000 other Swedes, co-director Jacob Andrén raised money as a child to help save the rainforest. Twenty years later, he wonders if his donations really made a difference. He launches a one-man quest to locate his plot of land and discover whether conservation can really put an end to ecological threats such as logging and mining. Enlisting the help of a former teacher from his primary school, Andrén searches through dusty files for the needle in the haystack—the certificate awarded to his class that promised the rainforest’s protection and preservation. This amusing journey recaptures the innocence and inspiration of youth. Remember how easy it was to believe you could save the world when you were eight? Andrén uses this optimism to prove that one person can indeed effectuate change. One tree may not be very substantial, but together, everyone’s trees create a forest. - Angie Driscoll
