Marx went to great lengths in order to research the building blocks of society. In his historical account he noted that fundamentally when people become disconnected from the source of their sustenance the scene is set for an unequal society. Consequently, when people and their land are placed in an extended social hierarchy of enforced control a social system based on conflict and competition magnifies those social differences and leads to the kind of society we know as capitalist. Capitalist, civilised, inustrialised society is consumerist in its essence because ultimately it consumes land and nature. Derrick Jensen's critique of civilisation reaches the same conclusions, and so does Ted Kazynski's account. there is something very wrong with the way we husband our land, a problem that feeds to the heart of a sick society.
So a solution offers itself: put people or human-scale communities in direct control of their land, the land they live on, the land they will all return to one day. Let no-one tell the community what to do with its land - enable the community to depend on its land. Do not permit leaders or controllers of the community - make decisions about use of the land and society consensually. Make all communication and decision-making open and transparent within and without the community - have mutual decision-making circles between neighbouring communities. Some have called this anarch-primitivism, some call it anarcho-syndicalism. Some would call it true civilisation. David Holmgren might recognise it as horticulturisation. Base life on your land and find peace there, find harmony there. Love the land, respect others' land, Reform the Land, the Llan, the Clan.
