Promoting body acceptance through clothing-optional recreation using the tools of education and community outreach.
NATURISTS enjoy getting naked.
NATURISTS are more comfortable with their bodies
….or their trying to be.
NATURISTS recognize the skin-all of it, not what peaks out above a collar or a veil or at the end of a sleeve or cuff-as the largest single organ of the body. The skin organ provides vital functions: cooling, elimination of wastes, stimulation of blood, stimulation of feeling, providing contact with other creatures without interference.
NATURISTS are aware of the unwanted, undesirable, but unavoidable heritage of ignorance, fear, and shame of the body. Now long part of Western culture, it is reproduced in the society at large and within the family as the society's earliest school of conformity and values.
NATURISTS place rationality above blind conformity society's temporary fashions and rules.
NATURISTS believe that "Clothes Make the Man" -into a victimized pawn of the state.
NATURISTS regard Puritanism -the internalized rules that separate human from human in an ever more crowded, urban, busy society-as an inevitable defense mechanism of cultural development. Not, however as a desirable, or any longer as a rational code of living.
NATURISTS may or may not have read Sigmund Freud's Civilization and Its Discontents. However, they realize that the rules that society invented to minimize abrasive contacts during a period of hellbent industrialization may no longer apply. The `sublimation' of real needs into artificial satisfaction has been crowned by he Consumer Capitalism promoted worldwide by the USA, and its Limitations in satisfaction, in creating the mature and realized human being, are painfully obvious.
NATURISTS suspect that some human beings, fervent ideologies and extremist doctrines, were not born naked. The way that they garb themselves to assume authority proves that they could never have been naked.
NATURISTS are not "ists" more than can be avoided.
NATURISTS are uncomfortable with society's "isms." All labels, including this one, are part of a culture which categorizes and pigeonholes in the name of a science and technology which has lost its human lodestone.
NATURISTS feel a compelling, crowning kinship with all other creatures born naked as themselves.
NATURISTS are concerned with environmental. Naturists decry the abuse of natural resources and of other species in the name of progress and profit.
NATURISTS may simply skinny-dip with close family; this is an ages old custom, still preserved in Japan and, with saunas, in Finland.
NATURISTS may alas feel comfortable with body freedom in larger social units, reproducing in today's contexts, the rationality about clothing that the ancient Greeks, that most harmonized and brilliant culture of all time, offer as example.
NATURISTS seek out secluded springs, hot tubs, backyard pools, sailboats, quarries, lake shores, ocean beaches, wild and scenic rivers, hillsides, exotic resorts, nearby clubs, municipal pools, even roof tops to begin to generate the social relations and free dress code of a naturist culture that will one day decisively break through the wraps of the decadent clothes-compulsive regime.
NATURISTS are pioneers in trying life-styles that `desublimate' the real needs and potential of human beings to lead satisfying individual lives in group situations which are democratic and nonthreatening.
NATURISTS do not equate sexuality with nakedness
NATURISTS see that many people today make that mistaken equation.
NATURISTS see this as the outcome of puritanical tradition which can no longer suppress natural values, but neither does it freely allow, encourage and guide them. The inevitable consequence is the exploitation of unquenchable fantasies through advertising and simple pornography. Suppression of the natural values cannot destroy these values, rather it perverts them. The result is sexual overstimulus and voyeurism all too often coupled with images of domination and violence.
NATURISTS are uncommonly open about the body and its functions. However, they do not believe in imposing on those of dissenting opinions, nor do they expect such opponents to impose their views.
NATURISTS, seeing the uncontrollable diversity of nature itself, are tolerant. They expect, nay demand, tolerance in return.
NATURISTS work to obtain legal recognition of clothing-optional recreation areas. As long as clothing-obsessive people exist, their rights to be let alone should be respected. But they should not exclusively control more living, work, and recreational areas, including beaches, rivers, lakes, quarries, resorts and indoor pool areas, and use times, than their relative numbers indicate.
NATURISTS want the courts and law enforcement and recreation managers to fully recognize that skinny dippers enjoy constitutional protection.
NATURISTS include in their organizations many highly educated and professional people, and these skilled men and women increasingly lend abilities to create a better basis of living.
NATURISTS (or a politically and socially inclined minority of those so minded) often seek to join together as an educational vehicle.
NATURISTS may-at some sacrifice but with much enjoyment -provide leadership to the clothes-optional tendency in society.
Nudism is a cultural and political movement advocating and defending social nudity in private and in public. It may also refer to a lifestyle based on personal, family and/or social nudity.
Naturism is a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, and characterized by self-respect of people with different opinions and of the environment. The term "naturism" means different things to different people. To some, it suggests a carefully considered way of life; a philosophy, no less. To others, naturism is nothing more complicated than a day at the nude beach.
