Naturism is a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, and characterized by self-respect of people with different opinions and of the environment. The term "naturism" means different things to different people. To some, it suggests a carefully considered way of life; a philosophy, no less. To others, naturism is nothing more complicated than a day at the nude beach.
Nudism is a cultural and political movement advocating and defending social nudity in private and in public. It may also refer to a lifestyle based on personal, family and/or social nudity.
Many naturists identify themselves as also being nudists, however many nudists are not naturists and could care less about ecology and their impact on the environment. Recently the word nudism has been tainted by the association with the swing lifestyle that has infiltrated the once wholesome nudist community. Because of this connotation with sex nudists are often regarded as nothing more than perverts and exhibitionists. Although this accusation is false the reputation prevails.
While nudists are more interested in vacation confined to colonies and resorts naturists advocate free use of public lands, be they beaches or rivers or any natural setting where its possible to be nude in nature as well as in a social atmosphere often meshing them by helping create clothing optional beaches and other new recreation areas.
Although many nudists and naturists prefer to live naked as much as possible. There are also people who participate in social nude recreation whether in a resort setting or jumping in a pond to cool off with friends but do not identify with any creed and would prefer to just admit to skinny dipping from time to time.
how do you perceive the gulf between the two creeds, similar as they may be? Do you Identify with nudism or naturism in one way or another or are you content to be a seldom skinny dipper with a need to be fashion forward always?
