I'm very excited that this group was created, and yesterday I had a thought to become a part of a collaborative digital text.

My vision of the text is one that is simultaneously spontaneous and planned, to unite/dissolve the binary of textual construction and appeal to many styles. The goal of a text like this I believe would be akin to the goals of the Evolver community: conscious collaboration and individual transformation

Just as biomimicists design devices based on natural phenomena, I believe a good model for such a text would be a tree.

The text would begin as a seed.
A single word
a single thought
Like the big bang.

The text germinates, the individual inspirations of collaborators are the nutrients that feed its growth, and feed its emergent meta-inspiration. Each contribution or 'node' of the tree can be of any nature, drawing from the inpiration of it's writer's Position, and from the inpiration of the text itself.

The text grows its foundation, and emerges from the soil to bask in the sunlight. It's trunk and roots grow, and it branches as one node splits from another, and another. Some collaborators may wish to branch from certain nodes, some in the roots, some in the branches, depending on what they feel is correct. As the text draws energy (inspiration) from its own hyperspace (the Sun) and psychomythical mentality (the Soil), the trunk of the work expands.

Inevitably, such a text will stagnate, dissolve, and die. But its cosmic footprint in Time remains. Perhaps a bird will nest in future texts, and so we may construct an ecosystem of texts, each endowed with their own particular niche in a fictional space of textuality.

Exactly

Beautifully envisioned. This was to an extent my notion, but I fear that the limitations of this place might put pay to that kind of complexity, but however a blog/wiki could I reckon be designed to achieve such a goal, ideally a hand-crafted piece of html. I would however say that as someone who is interested in feedback loops and symbiosis, that a mycelial model may be more temporally relevant for the trees have been cut;

trite title but interesting story and commentary.

for mycelial understanding watch Paul Stamet's video at Ted;

I propose this only because it emphasises feedback and interconnectedness and symbiotic interdependency over the classical hierarchy of evolution, for which the tree was always used as a model for. This model tended to instil in an observer the notion of teleological improvement and of increasing sophistication that ignored the symbiotic interdependence of the system.

Apologies, I'm looking too deep into this, but your fascinated post got me carried off. Thanks for your profound interest.

Fractal

would be ideal. By the way, I wish no reigns in this space; only the rapture of creation.

First steps

I think the first step is for each member of the group to "grok" everything in this virtual space. The firs step to that is to index everything so far into graphics/music that go along so everything is more tangible. I already have ideas for a "fractal musical map" and i know of some visuals that would help. Only problem with that is graphics aren't really supported on evolver in that fashion.
