When you alas are finished with this life,
No longer trapped within this flesh you've known,
Your animating force flees worldly strife
Escaping manacles of flesh and bone.

A slave no more to laws that govern men.
A thrall no more to pitiless desire.
A serf only to stellar hydrogen.
An helot only to celestial fire.

When you at last are finished with this place
And housed, perhaps, within some holy sphere,
Recall ten thousand kingdoms laid to waste;
Think on the lowly life-forms living here.

And if you wish to us to be returned,
You're welcome, if you share all that you've learned.

beautiful

A poem about death that's not depressing, when you refer to the ten thousand kingdoms" is that influence by TaoTeChing?

yess!

The ten thousand things are my fav... LOL
Thanks for reading. I recently thought to change, in the final couplet, 'if you share something you've learned.' cuz 'all that you've learned.' might take too long.
Thank you for reading.
