We construct kingdoms in our heads
and erect thrones within our hearts
We sit as kings and queens
Adorned with crowns made from our own hands
All of us Emperors
Marveling at our fine new clothes
We guard our borders
These walls we build
Seeking to admit only those we deem acceptable
Closing our gates to what we don’t know
Or understand
We barricade our riches
Posting guards of suspicion and greed
Against those who covet our wealth
As we covet theirs
Kings and queens
Yet so alone
My dusty crown sits on an empty throne
Whilst mice nest in once fine garments
For i have wandered naked into the world
With a heart than longs to bleed
With a soul that longs to know
In a kingdom with no throne
