I'd like to know how many of you have actually interacted with the medicines you work with in their living form. If you're into ayahuasca, have you met a caapi vine or a chakruna plant. If you work with mushrooms or cactus, have you ever planted them or harvested them fresh.

I think the psychedelic society is so focused on recipes, extractions, and getting as high as possible that very few people cultivate relationships with the living plant teachers. In my experience, they have as much to teach us alive as if we ingest them, and there are quite a few that are BETTER appreciated in their plant form than in some tea or pill or powder.

Good Point

I believe you make a good point. Every effort should be made to be in communion with plant teachers in their various manifestations. However, it's not always feasible to meet the live plant teachers, so does that mean we should stop participating in their Medicine?

Peace.

Thats true...

Maybe find and connect to local plant teachers, instead of working solely with faraway exotic ones?

Like everything else,

Like everything else, connecting with the biosphere is a matter of non-dualism. The key is breaking down the conceptual distinction between humanity and the "rest of" the environment. You can spout all the deep-ecology philosophy about our place in the ecosystem you want, but for too many of us this is a logical/cognitive truth only. We need to develop an instinctual perception of plants if we are to say that we are one with them. That's not going to happen from a few isolated entheogenic experiences. It takes daily relationships with plants, and those relationships have to be non-hierarchical. I spent some of this summer working on a Hopi farm, and they sing to their corn crops and talk to them while out in the field. For the Hopi the corn is their children, in a very non-metaphorical sense.

My point is that we need to recondition how we conceptual map the plant world in relation to ourselves, and reconditioning takes time. Building up and living out relationships with plants is far more important than anything a plant teacher is going to tell you. Make a habit of thinking of plants as ends in themselves rather than means to your self-transformation. Name them, play music for them, do whatever it takes until you stop feeling silly for treating a plant like "one of us."

Shortly after reading this ,I found this book , although not released yet looks very interesting

CONNECTING WITH PLANTS

I AM ABOUT TO EMBARK ON THE HORTICULTURE OF SOUTH AMERICAN/MEXICAN HERBS AND PLANTS.
DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON GROWING/HARVESTING/PREPARING PLANTS FROM THESE LOCATIONS?
BOOK OR INTERNET SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED.

Variety of environments.....

I know a good number of plants might require an artificial humidity chamber for seed propagation and continuing growth in the seedling stage. I currently have been successful with germinating from seed, Trichocereus peruvianus(Peruvian Torch) Cactus. It is a slow growing plant, but enjoyable to see the life cycle of this spiritual plant. The original native location of your chosen plant will of course determine what environmental conditions are required for germination and continuing growth. Tons of info online, so just ask the all knowing WWW for answers and experiences.

Enviorment

Thanks Edward
When I make my choices I will google them.
Will check out the Peruvian Torch.
I live on Galvston Island. Pretty temperate and humid, but still researching. Thought maybe start endeavor around March. Still waiting to hear from native grower.
