Psychedelics, Sexuality and LGBT Rights

Greetings,
I am posting this letter as a way of reaching out to the psychedelic
community. Currently, my wife and I are producing and directing an
independent film on the subject of equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender and two-spirit people. The central focus of our documentary is
that of religious and spiritual freedoms and protective rights. We are
including a wide range of religions and spiritual beliefs as part of our
exploration and sincerely believe that the psychedelic experience and
community itself have a vital role and say in this discussion.
We hope to show that sexual orientation is widely accepted in various
forms of religions and philosophies so as to warrant civil protection under
the law. As a boundary dissolving experience psychedelics can teach us a great deal about sexuality and gender orientation.
It is our hope to contact someone for an interview whom may be able to share their own sexual revelations while having a psychedelic experience. Perhaps, even more so, someone who is somewhat proficient in this idea of sexual revelation while using a psychedelic. If anyone out there could in any way assist us or guide us in the right direction we would be truly grateful! I have included a link to our current web site so that you may better understand where we are going with the film. Thanks...Peace and Love!
Sincerely,
Alan S

The subject of homosexuality
The subject of homosexuality is very interesting. I am a believer in the New England Journal's opinion that homosexuality for men is set in genetic code whereas woman merely have a preference. I myself don't believe in male bisexuality. I think it is a cultural manifestation wherein gay men reconcile their desires by claiming both gaining "best of both worlds" and a somewhat freeing of cultural compartmentalism. I'm not saying you can't have sex with both, but your heart will only lie with one. Woman on the other hand, by their genetics, are free to wax back and forth happily. IMHO.
Do you know any bisexual men?
Do you not believe in it because you do not know any bisexual men?
Consurrection: n. - the act of rising up together by way of reverence.
I identify as a bisexual man
I identify as a bisexual man because I occasionally (though not often) feel extremely sexually aroused by the idea of having sex with a man. It's much more likely that I will feel attracted to women, and for the most part sexual attraction to men is not something that I'm aware of on a daily basis in my life, but it is certainly something that I have fantasized about and pursued in the past. I'm certain that I'm not gay ... if I must be one or the other, I'm straight and I've been somehow culturally conditioned into desiring men every now and then. But this seems really unlikely to me.
The Kinsey scale seems to make a lot of sense to me, and while I'm definitely not right in the middle of it, I'm also not on either of the poles. What do you make of bisexual men who identify as such because they primarily enjoy sex with women but are happy to fuck a guy if the circumstances are right for it?
LOL, Bi men are a wild card.
LOL, Bi men are a wild card. I just prescribe to that theory myself. In certain cultures there are considered 5 genders ranging from masculine men to feminine women and variations in between with a complete 50/50. I also tend to forget that not all people are as strongly convicted as me. I decided long ago to do away with any sort of ambiguity of who I was and what I like and I've never looked back.
On a more personal note I just dislike the idea of bi guys, they seem to be like sexual teases >_<, from my experience. They were either closeted jock guys, indie-types or straight-all-my-life-now-exploring-gay-experiences. The point of the comment was that yes you can have sex with anyone but for men, they primarily prescribe to one or the other that is determined in their genes. I lost my virginity to a girl and messed around a few times but I'm definitely gay. The point is not how you feel horny, but what you want when you get off.
Sexual Orientation, Sexual Behavior, Sexual Identity, Sexual Lab
Sexual Orientation: Feelings (emotional or physical) of sexual attraction you can not control.
Sexual Behavior: When you make the choice to act out on sexual desires.
Sexual Identity: What you choose to identify yourself as sexually. Terms like : Gay, Straight, Bisexual, Lesbian, A-Sexual are used to help people explain to others sexually what they do and do not like, However these terms are not set in stone and are subject to change from person to person.
Sexual Labels: What others choose to call you.
oh my god. i need to hear
oh my god. i need to hear ONE MORE guy talk about what he 'believes' is bisexuality, what he 'thinks' about it, when he himself does not identify as bi.
please, even in this community, huh?
and as for : "I'm not saying you can't have sex with both, but your heart will only lie with one"... how about if you just let US define that, and let OUR HEARTS divine where they lay.
yeah, thanks. now we have permission to be.

Boundry Dissolving
I agree. I think that taking the time to consider what boundry dissolving means and how this way of thinking can be applied to all things in life would lead one to let the individual decide for themselves - or perhaps NOT decide to label themselves in any fasion. How can one person decide for another. And last, I agree with the central tenant of Wicca of 'if you do no harm onto others then do as you wish'. If we all lived this way the discussion would simply be null. Peace.
appologies for taking that
appologies for taking that on, here. i know this aspect of the topic might not be the intent of this thread. it's been buggin me for days. i didn't just REACT, and express those feelings off the cuff. i hope that cleans things up.

No apologies :)
I am glad that people are speaking on this subject openly. Its all apart of the film. We hope only to open hearts and mind towards acceptance of the individual and their natural rights etc. So, to see that people whom are a part of Evolver have somewhat disparate opinions, I suppose its a good topic to flesh out; especially in this community because I believe that positive evolution of society is directly related to the people connecting here :)

The two words
In Zen, they say that there are two words that describe the universe.
those two words are "Not Always So"
That said, I like the kinsey scale. Easy Peasy
But really, I don't care who sexes with who, or why, or when. If I'm not part of it, It's none of my business. I got enough sexual issues of my own to worry about yours. work it out. don't hurt anybody.
In that same vein, I feel no need to tell any of y'all who I sleep with, or why. If it ain't you, stay out of it. If I want to sex you, I'll let you know. We can figure it out from there.
Ummmm
Some like to give and take. Is it more complicated than that?
2cents
when i first saw tigamu's response about the male vs female bisexuality, my first thought was, "let's pay attention to what's going on when we feel the impulse to separate and compartmentalize."
let's do that. black or white=construct of the mind. it's interesting to notice when we want to put things into boxes...it's a finger pointing...perhaps there must be something that came up for you around that theme, tigamu, to have such strong inclinations in your ideas behind bisexuality...
i consider myself to be "bisexual", but frankly i HATE labeling myself. LABELS ARE SO LIMITING! we are infinite beings!!!!! i think sexuality is fluid, and i think the kinsey scale is a great (but not absolute) way of quantifying that fluidity.
I disagree
Labels are an important fact of life in comprehending the world. Besides, humans being are organisms that reproduce sexually. Like all living organisms, we follow the one basic rule of life, to reproduce. So by that definition YES, sexuality is the function of life, so therefore it is written in our genetic code. And if its written in genetic code it is then defined, whether it be gay, straight otherwise. Humans give their consciousness TOO much credit in my opinion. Science is quickly discovering we are driven more heavily by our genes than our developed frontal cortexes.
although we are driven by
although we are driven by behavior and genetic needs, this is manifest in a world that is only undersstood through the process of perception. through perception we determine what we physiologically. hence the fakirs and shamans who can go without sustenance for so long, they have transcended the limits of physiological nature. labels are only a DEFENSE MECHANISM so we can quickly assimilate what we perceive into a flight or fight response. if we can master our emotions mainly the amygdala which is responsible for quick processing into flight or fight reactions we can do away with superficial labels and focus on the annihilation of the illusion of diversity and become one with the universal absolute.
SCIENCE & FAITH, IT MIGHT JUST WORK, IT HASN'T BEEN TRIED YET...
Agree with Tigamu about labels
We need labels to help us understand what's going on. We are infinite beings, but we need to communicate about very specific stuff to other infinite beings. If a label isn't working for you, come up with a new one! the whole Queer/ Gay/ LGBT label evolution is a good example of how certain labels were too limiting so they came up with new ones.
Not to be diplomatic...but...
Not to be diplomatic, but I believe that you're both right. The brain does organize and compartmentalize ideas and concepts. I think this is why we generalize to a fault far to often. But the codex of language is essential to communicate. Shared ideas and underdstanding is an indespensible part of our interaction with eachother. But, like I said, i believe it can be to a fault. An idea like bi-sexuality is a way of gaining a general idea or implication of an individula but it is not all encompassing. We may be able to measure parts of the brain that correlate with certain thoughts and emotions but we still have no idea what is mind and how does it works...The individual will always see themselves differently than they are percieved by others. Labels can be off putting for some and comforting for others but never definitive. I recently spoke to a Native American who prefers "two-spirit" person because it involves more concepts than we are used to including in our current paradigm. And so it should be included in our vocabulary. I don't think we should be lazy about it. There should be no limits to the terms desired by the individual and I hope that we would be willing to accept all. What bi-sexual means to one person is not the same as to another...Gaining an "understanding" is important but it can be dangerous also when it becomes all encompassing and assumptive...I think...for now...
Everyone is talking about what they think...
I think this discussion brings up a very interesting point about thought. If you define life at its most fundamental as a series of actions and reactions between organisms and their environment dictated by their genetic code then what is the significance of intelligent thought as an evolutionary trait? To what purpose does philosophy serve in the grand scheme of things? Is it necessary that an organism achieve philosophical milestones and influence how that organism views itself and its relation to the universe? Does every thought thought have significance or importance beyond its original context? What my main question is does our thinking, be it right of wrong, have an impact on the universe because we can think? Is it truly mind over matter. Simply because we thought it and our resulting action, does it bring it to existence? (In reference to the observer affect) Is "Cognito ergo sum" a true statement and not some arrogant assumption of man's importance?
This is a little too deep for me to flush out in a blog and by myself.
I should probably read Decartes...
If you view the universe as a probability that anything, matter, energy, etc. exists in a two part state, existing and not, then when thought is applied, does it then create the universe? For example: electrons have a probability of existing in a specific location. It can be thought as both existing at the spot you think its at or being on the other side of the universe (empty space), until one observes it. At that moment it ceases to be both and becomes one or the other. In other words, bringing it into existence or not. Does our impact as an observer bring about existence? Does life prove itself with itself? And if there was no life, then would their still be existence?
Perhaps one can be without
Perhaps one can be without thinking thus. Blur the lines :)

Souls beneath
Alan and Tsvetoslava:
Thanks for taking on this great project, I wish I could offer something to your film, being technically bisexual (labels - really aren't we ALL sexual?), but the one altered state I had was like a malfunction without insights. I can recommend lots of great literature available at MCC re: homosexuality and the bible. http://www.gentleshepherdmcc.com/bible.htm
It'd be great to be part of your crew on this, if you need extra help, I'm in Riverside.
Lina: I like two-spirit as well.
Sitaram: "If I want to sex you" = funny/sexy. I like it.
Anyone rememeber I Love Lucy: "I'm going to vamp you!"
Tigamu: Why divide bisexuality by gender? Isn't it more likely that female bisexuality is more socially accepted and therefor more evident? Many straight guys have taken advantage of an anonymous opportunity with another guy, have they not? Circle jerks with friends? That is bisexual play isn't it?
In balance with Heaven and Earth.
thanks
Thanks James. We have one more day of filming and then its on to post production. We still have not been able to find someone whom has had something of a sexual revelation while on a trip so we are forced to go ahead without this segment. It saddens me becase I feel strongly about the importance of the psychedelic community in general and what it has to contribute to society...Thanks for the web link! The first time can feel like a malfunction - but on the MushrooM the second time - i hear tell - is when one can better assimilate an experience. Also, I am a believer in approaching the experience spiritually, peaceably, with love in the heart and with the right set and setting ( perhaps lighting candles, right music, incense etc.) and man what an experience it can be :)
I really love this online community - there is nothing like it on the net that I have experienced. I'm not really a blogger, but somehow I feel comfortable on evolver. Thanks to evryone!

Free to choose
It is true that the main purpose of sex is to reproduce. But the gift of humanity is free choise. There is some evidence that claim that homosexuality is caused by a 'homosexual gen'. I believe this to be a blueprint for our lovelife, not perse your sexlife.
But as you develop in life, collecting experiences and reflections upon those experiences, you create your own vision of the world. It is this vision and your awareness of this vision that can gives you an option to have sex with the other gender. Some are very open to this, because of their experiences with this topic, and some aren't aware that they have a choise.
It's also a choise to identidy yourself and others. No, that aint true actually: your mind identifies automatically, but it is your choise to be aware of this and whether your control it, or it controls you.
The best thing to do is to enjoy here and now and not to be distracted by your thoughts and opinon of others. Enjoy and explore the lust and/or love you feel between one another, without hurting anyone else.
