Goa Gil
I can say that my favorite DJ is Goa Gil - he is one of the founders of psytrance and his sets represent a high quality tribal spiritual psychedelic dance experience. In his own words, these events “redefine the ancient tribal ritual for the 21st century”. I just looooove his taste of music which I guess most people would call night or dark or neuro trance and I would probably just call it psychedelic.
I think one of the reasons I am drawn to this kind of music is because it is very intense, emotional and powerful. I think this allows a stronger emotional 'release' and 'ego cleansing' for the listener/dancer. Sometimes I can start crying when I listen to it as it pierces my heart, other times it makes me laugh. It's fast beats really put me into a state of trance even if I am completely sober. I should probably write an essay about what this music can do.
I am amazed with how different people 'tune in' into different music styles, it's as if some people have it in their DNA.

the first psytrance party i
the first psytrance party i ever went to was a goa gil party.
needless to say it was a very full power introduction.
i don't always jive with his track selection, but i think that his sets taken in their entirety are sonic odyssies that can only be explained through experience. he resonates with a dancefloor in a way that i've seen few artists able to do. at the same time, i wanted to chop off my ears van-gogh style at some points. but for an artist to evoke such a strong reaction, even a negative one, is a feat in and of itself.
ears of my ears awake!
scanning through tracks to select which to buy, if i think in terms of labels, i'm lost. a beautiful morning track could make sense at night, and a dark "night" track (if done just so...) could work in the morning/afternoon...
i just found psytrance about a year ago and have been swept along on the magic carpet ride. organic downtempo (shulman, posford, etc.) is the music that helps me survive my days in the grey walls of the public school where i am employed. when i get home, give me some full-on, or maybe some progressive...recently ordered "this is not a workshop" from positive thought and love it.
my love and i sort of felt like we'd found the fountain of youth when we found psytrance, and we feel gratitude every day that it has come into our lives. it has helped us to find all of these portals --such as this website -- and to realize that the thoughts we were having weren't in isolation, weren't ours only.

twisted
twisted records is just way at the top for me, you've got the mean intense Halucinogen, quirky and melodic Prometheus, playful and beautiful Younger Brother, crazy fun dub Ott, and of course the inexplicable Shpongle. from exquisite production to mind-melting live performance, they always deliver.
question
hey, I am really into the goa-psytrance sound... it's something I just recently discovered, after being relatively unmoved by the more mainstream-ish stuff I have heard... I found this one site http://djmix.net/index.php if you search for psy trance there are some nice mixes for free download... my favorite on here so far is a mix by Anya 'Messengers' that has this super heavy rolling bass... that's ambrosia to me... can anyone suggest similar?
oh, and by-the-by, my weird electronica is freely available at http://www.archive.org/details/shining-sound-of-sedna
nothing to do with trance, really,... but it is weird, and heavy.
Astral Projection
Astral Projection is an amazing band, you guys should check em out

a late bloomer
I went to my first festival last year at the age of 48. It rocked my world!!! The scene is mostly pretty young here, but it doesn't matter... when I trance I lose myself completely. What a magical gift !
