Welcome and introductions

<< back to group Evolver Santa Fe
June 13, 2009

Hello!

It's great to see people joining the group. It would be great to get to know a little bit more about everyone. Maybe a little about what you are up to, your dreams and visions, and what drew you to this group and to Evolver. Whatever you would like to share about yourself really.

I myself am a return student after a 20 year break. I had been reading Reality Sandwich and looked forward to the social network that they kept saying was in the works. I had signed up right away for the newsletters and the alert for when the social network came online.

When it did come online a couple months ago, I got excited and checked it all out. I noticed that there was not a group yet for Santa Fe, so I started one. This was over a weekend and I got impatient for the group to go online/public, it had to be approved. On Monday I received a congratulatory email, along with several other people, that I had applied to be a regional coordinator. My eyes widened and I hesitated, I had no idea that by creating a Santa Fe group I was applying to be a regional coordinator, it’s a good thing too or else I wouldn’t have created it and I wouldn’t be the regional coordinator for Santa Fe right now.

After the hesitation, I thought back to how doing this would give me the push to do what I have been talking about, dreaming of and wishing someone else would do. I am also stoked to be able to be a part of something that fits with what I am studying at school. Now is my chance to put what I and many others would like to see, into action. So I filled out the application and did the phone interview. The first event will be June 17th, likely small, but that was my plan.

Out of this event I hope to get a feel for what to do for the next event and to get the buzz out. I invited some people who might be interested in participating in organizing events and hopefully people from the community will show up and participate too. I am thinking of this event as an awareness raising event and an organizing for the next event.

I am confident that this will take off here in Santa Fe and that each neighborhood or area of town will have sub-regions, with their own events. I can see us pooling together to accomplish tasks like community gardens and disaster preparedness, especially in the poorer neighborhoods. I sense good things coming from this.

I hope you will participate in anyway you see fit!

Introduce yourself and feel free to use this group as you need, create a discussion or a group blog and let us know what’s happening with you.

Thank you!

Hello

Hi D, I think it's great what you're trying to do here. I hope you're meeting good people where you are an getting good things happening. I look forward to meeting you someday. My name is Bryan, and I currently am living in California, but am moving back to my homeland of New Mexico next year. I'm looking forward to putting down roots and getting involved in local progressive action. I'm also going back to school after a long hiatus, and am planning on studying Anthropology, with an emphasis on local history and culture. Further I'm hoping to get a minor in the Sustainability Studies program, and maybe further go for a Masters in Community and Regional Planning. I was very inspired by my reading of Dwellers in the Land: The Bio-Regional Vision by Kirkpatrick Sale, and it has given me a new focus and purpose in life. Namely to do what I can to help the people of my desert homeland be empowered to achieve self-sufficient and sustainable systems of life support, and to build strong communities.

Dwellers in the Land

Bryan,

That is interesting, I am from California originally and found my way here, mainly because half my family is originally from here, many still here.

I also have returned to school after a very long hiatus. I have similar interests and goals as you do.

It will be good to meet. I hope to see an alliance between Santa Fe Evolver and the as yet nonexistent Albuquerque Evolver. It would be cool to see a strong network from Las Cruces to Denver and beyond.

Peace,
Dionysios
