So, I will admit when my life gets weird Evolver is probably one of the first places I turn. Recently, I have been having weird, strange, and probably even absurd synchroncities around oyster shells.

For me many of the synchronicities in my life have been deep, meaningful and obvious in their meaning. For instance, before I pursued a career in Chinese Medicine I had lots of interactions with bears: tracks, signs, life sightings, etc. People would come with me on hikes who had never seen bears and we would see one on a day hike in the Cascades. Then, when I went to Chinese Medical school the sightings/experience died way back.

Last summer I had a lot of weird experiences and dreams involving clouds and hummingbirds. This was echoed by a lot evolvers and ended up with a hummingbird crop formation and lots of weird aerial phenomenon over the last year (including the Norway spiral). Theses summer and then fall experience seemed spiritual significant and carried a lot of portent.

What's been happening recently doesn't seem to carry the same weight at all, it's just weird: I keep coming across oyster shells in weird places.

The first time this happened was about five years ago in the Catalina Mountains in Arizona. I was hiking a dry stream bed and came across a very old, weathered oyster shell. It was not a fossil, but it was clearly aged. I wasn't that far from a campsite, but oysters are a pretty odd camping food. I pondered over the find for awhile and then just filed it away as an odd experience.

Time passed, and then last weekend while in the Cascade mountains. I had pretty much the same experience. I was at a high man-made lake called Diablo, and I found another old, weathered oyster shell on the beach. It was a rocky beach and yes people do go there, but again it was an odd find since it was a non-camping area and doesn't seem like food people bring into the wilderness.

This Thursday my daughter came home from preschool talking about seashells that she found in the stream near her school. She mentioned that there were three shells found in the stream, and I assumed they were clamshells that she was mistaking for seashells (she's almost four and an excellent naturalist, but I did think she might have gotten a little confused).

Today, we unpacked her backpack from school and inside was an old, weathered oyster shell. No kidding, not joking. The weirdest things is that all three shells are startlingly similar in appearance: they all appear old, beat up, maybe weathered by water but not fossilized.

So, evolver's any ideas on what this means? Anybody else having weird synchronicities out there? Is something about to be found in the sea? What are the meanings of oysters? (Aphrodisiacs?)

Help me out if you can.

well...

I just came back to work from eating lunch on Pearl St. in lower Manhattan and saw the e-mail alert about your oyster post. I looked up oyster at a dream symbol site:
An oyster in your dream may have sexual connotations. It usually represents the female sex organ or, if eaten by a man, may represent his ability or desire to perform well sexually. Oysters are also considered symbols of humility and wisdom. Their meaning is associated with that of pearls. The most negative interpretation is that the oyster represents a well guarded individual; a person who has shut himself off from others. Attempt to connect some of these ideas to your emotional life and overall experiences and keep in mind the setting, context and outcome of the dream.

oysters!

Wait - You ATE something on PEARL street? Ha! What did you eat?

Also - Shell and Vagina are the same word in ancient greek (I think) Thus that very seductive painting of Venus on the Half-shell...

And - there is an old joke, and it must be told by a man (for obvious reasons):

"You know that thing about oysters? Well it's not true. Last night I went out on a date with this beautiful woman. I had a dozen oysters - and only nine of them worked!"

So, the obvious sexual

So, the obvious sexual connotations don't really ring a bell right now. I'm wondering more about the humility/wisdom part. What I'm especially perplexed by is the salt water oceanic oyster being found in places of obvious fresh water far from the ocean. I'm wondering if there's a layer of symbolism there about water in my (or all of our) life/lives.

"The wilderness holds all truth and knowledge."

Pathfinder has found a new path?

Re my theory of synchronicities you need to identify the psychological contexts in which your synchronicities are embedded. Inferring from your material - in the last five years have you been concerned with the problem of aging - with it associated concerns of growing older, 'drying up' losing your spiritual vitality so to speak. If this is accurate then associate your oyster synchronicities with your psychological issues. Suggests a life lesson of something like one can teach an old dog new tricks providing he has the right attitude to be open to new experiences even when the experiences occur at times and in places he would never expect them to be. Additionally the synchronicity may be associated with feelings of increasing closeness with your daughter enhancing the experience of a renewal of spiritual energy?
