The 4th of July. It sparks very powerful images and feelings - patriotism, national pride, family, summertime picnics, fireworks, community. We are a very proud people in the U.S. - proud of our "freedom" and our "liberty". To most citizens, this day is set aside to bask in the glory of these "freedoms", and to "honor the men and women who have served our great nation".
- What is Freedom? Is freedom a spouse, a white picket fence, 2 cars, 2 kids, a dog, and a cat? Is freedom the ability to "vote" every few years on "important" issues? Is freedom the ability to "buy anything we want".
I'm sure most of you out there have heard these reasonings before. We want to ask this question with a greater meaning this year.
- What is Freedom? What is Liberty? What makes a nation "great"?
This year, The Zeitgeist Movement will reach out through street activism on the 4th of July. We shall be asking these questions with the intent to share our knowledge of a better world - where Freedom need not be sold one day a year in one privileged country - but a world of true Freedom that liberates the globe from poverty, debt, and disease.
We will have a "booth" set up on the Chestnut St bridge right behind Penn's Landing on the Fourth of July in downtown Philly.
