People are slowly coming round to zero-waste, and both community and individual initiatives are building, but the concept is still pioneering. I get this all the time. What do you mean zero-waste? What do you do with your garbage?
By going zero-waste, I am actually saying there is no such thing. Let me pause while you pick your jaw from the floor.
It's all about perspective and attitude. It's about the relationship with the objects that come into your life. Your stuff is not comprised of the items in the package, it's the package too. I'm not saying there aren't challenges. Some objects, and there are increasing less, to this date can't be composted, upcycled, recycled, reused or renovated enough for you to want to keep in your company. So what do we do, we find solutions, we find ways to avoid them and support initiatives to stop making them. Because necessity breeds invention, when you give up your garbage can you will find solutions.
To get this group going, I'll be posting things here I have learned after one year being zero-waste, and believe me it's still a learning process. So please contribute, doesn't matter if you still have a garbage can in your house. Let's look at what's keeping you from giving it up. Can we together find solutions. I welcome tips, ideas, suggestions and musings on the subject of zero-waste. It's about that dream of one day hearing, "Grandma, what's garbage?"
