Hong Kong Hit By Record 13,000 Lightning Strikes in One Hour

lightning struck ground across the city in the hour after
midnight."

Record lightning strikes pounded Hong Kong today in its most violent electrical storm, which caused flooding and left people trapped in elevators.

That's nearly four lightning strikes per second in one city over one hour. Hong Kong has an area of 426 sq mi (1104 sq km). Population: (2009 est.) 7,038,000, one of the most densely populated areas in the world.
