I'm glad to see our group's membership steadily rising! I'd love to hear any ideas on this project and how people might contribute to making it happen!
Here's a bit on my recent research:
I built a meditation stool with a transducer underneath, to impart healing sound vibrations, and I'm working on building a sound bed, with transducers under a contoured table with memory foam on top. I've been looking at ways to create and edit sound healing tracks, add in affirmations, and connect them to the lights in my audiovisual synthesizer. Pretty soon I'll be getting some software for my Galvanic Skin Response meter, to connect that as well.
On a larger scale note, I've also been looking at LED lights, specifically the
Traxon system: http://www.traxontechnologies.com/asia/en/product-detail.php?id=823
with the Ecue programming software: http://www.ecue.de/products/software/lighting-application-suite.html
They make it sound like I could put something together if I put my mind to it! I don't think it'd be too hard to enlist the help of that company or Psyleron or both, to connect it to the output of the Random Event Generator data, which would be the ultimate accomplishment of this project, I think.
Another exciting area of research has been Orgone generators - the alternating combination of an organic substance, resin, and metal. I actually made a 6 inch tall orgone pyramid in August, with 5 quartz crystals and copper wire throughout! I'm wondering what would happen if I made tubes of orgonite, with copper wire, and a copper pipe with water and broken quartz crystals in side, connecting with other tubes to form some kind of pyramid or star tetrahedron or whatnot. If we are able to make something like this, it could be easily transportable to festivals or gatherings, to create an instant sacred space, where any number of practices could take place.
Sound and light would be an integral part of it - I'd want a few transducers to make a sound floor, as many small speakers throughout the structure, and a strobe light or two, tactfully placed, to get video as well as audio entrainment.
And to combine the two, I'm working on a "cymascope" that translates sound into visible patterns in a fluid, that can then be projected into a space. Participants' voice and the sound healing of the speakers, would mesh into a single visual, auditory, and tactile experience! Synesthesia here we come... should we integrate essential oils or certain smells to remind people's brains of the deep meditative state they were in, when at the temple the day before?
The "cymascope" at its most basic, involved vibrating water in a speaker cone - all we'd have to do is add some quartz crystals and vibrate it, to mimic the technology of the shaman beating on a drum with water and crystals during a ceremony. The end result could be the same - participants drink the intensely charged water at the end, in effect revitalizing them with their own intentions.
What do people here think of this?
Is there anyone in the Northeast that would like to help me build such things?

Lovely
This sounds really lovely, and I can't wait to hear more about its development. One thought that crossed my mind is about the ritual and container of this device. Is this a device to help people move into a gradual state of awareness? Such as the use of mantras/colors/crystals/etc to facilitate opening of the chakras and move energies through the body? Or is this machine broadcasting a static system of "relaxation signals" that will help the entire system operate in a more holistic manner?
I guess I'm examining the possible functions of a device like this as a 'gradual energetic system,' working in timed stages - each stage a minor adjustment on the previous stage - that will help the user become gradually adjusted to the now-freed energies in themselves. Essentially, the device itself is the shaman, working to create the space and control the elements necessary for successful mind/ego liberation.
Hmm, which also may highlight the significant drawbacks of a system like this - the human element. Shamans are well-versed and trained in acting and responding to individual spiritual needs, not static machines that operate in a linear function.
I guess, ultimately, it depends on the individual need - I, personally, think I would benefit greatly from a system like this. I am a very strong-willed, self-taught individual, and really enjoy learning on my own time, in my own way, at my own pace. I began learning to meditate with the aid of Binaural beats and Isochronic tones, so I certainly recognize the benefits of these tools.
And finally...I wonder about the benefits of scents - not just essential oils, but classic home cooking smells - chocolate, bread, spices, cinnamons, etc. Smells that an American audience can more closely relate to.
May the adventure continue! Can't wait to hear on what comes next.
Thanks for the feedback!
You're right it is something that could automate traditional shamanic functions, like replacing singing or drumming with audio that is responsive to bio/neurofeedback, but I think the technology could also complement a person to person shamanic role within the ritual/ceremonial space. I think gradual and well timed stages would be helpful to move the experience along as a journey - initiation, separation, peak and return, though perhaps it could be modified by either bio/neurofeedback, or a shamanic practitioner, to fine tune it. There could be an array of different programs for groups of people that want say more intensity, more calm meditation, specific brainwave states, healing, exploration, etc.
I need to look more into the use of scents. Perhaps something that simply smelled like the Amazonian jungle or the high mountains of Tibet, would help to stimulate a sense of being in a powerful spiritual place!
If you have any other thoughts, I'd love to hear them! I'm looking into festivals and events that might be good places to set this up next summer. Right now I'm working on building some DIY speakers, just finished a vibroacoustic bed, and I'm slowly fine tuning the cymatic device idea.
wow!
Where have you two been all my life? I’ve been thinking of exactly all of this for quite some time now and increasingly so as of late. Thank you Jason for the rabbit hole.
First off, what is a Galvanic skin response meter? It sounds completely fascinating. i could look it up too.
This hits me because I just went through a very intense shamanic initiation, past life regression, death and rebirth thing and during it was led to a metaphysical place on DMT that I figured I would be able to get back to with the right kind of technology and facilitation. This sounds exactly like what came to my mind and it’s something that can be used on so many levels.
Where I went to was sort of the inbetween of dreaming and waking and it was very specific. I was decending into the dream of dmt but there was this level that caught me and I had to change my breathing to not drop any further into a dream and then I had to maintain a certain pace of breath to stay there and to remain conscious there as well, I had to PAY ATTENTION to what was going on and how it felt and so forth so I would know how to get back there. it was super comfortable and nothing like we can really get to on our own in these present machinated atmospheric conditions of society. Life is too jagged and harsh and people are certainly not relaxed. It would have to be artificially facilitated for starters and with the use of a bed that vibrates and music and lights and psychedelics if a person is so inclined but if not then there are other ways of prepping a person for such a journey. And I say psychedelics cuz I know that one day soon they will be legal and accepted and hooray for that too.
It seems that if you are going to do something like this you would want your client to be as relaxed as possible so that a greater journey could be had in the mind and soul and so a massage of sorts and relaxing herbs would be good for the physical body. Your basic relaxing herbs like kava kava, lemon verbena, skullcap, etc, but even stronger ones like kratom would be the best and kratom works pretty fast and is sort of like a pseudo mushroom experience making one feel light and fluffy and more able to receive transmissions as well as let go of old programming and tune into the new. And kratom is a highly highly intelligent herb, it knows what it’s doing more than you do and like mushrooms it just does it’s job. Potent Indo was the kind i used and it was miraculous in its effects. It is full of love, very full of love and jah knows we need more of that around here.
Scents are essential. The olfactory nerve is a major memory trigger and so it would bring about a great deal of whatever needs to come up to the surface. And you would have to have a wide range of scents and a qualified practitioner because each person is different and each person will need to work on different aspects of themselves at different times. It would be intuitive more or less because every day is different and even if the person said on tues when they made the apt that they wanted rose on Thursday when they got there it could be jasmine or baked rhubarb strawberry pie. Who knows so be prepared.
And a shaman is necessary. Absolutely necessary! Not everyone is a Jedi Mind Traveler. Heck not only have most people not been to Dagoba in person, they’ve never even really went their in their minds except for seeing it on the screen and even that is just a replacement vision that few take seriously. Really Dagoba is just hanging out in the wilderness as much as possible and being as much of a monkey as possible out there. Most people are children now and they don’t understand metaphysical things much anymore and so if someone lays down in this bed and has an experience well that may be fine but they are still going to need to talk to someone so they can integrate it afterwards right? You can’t just give someone a massive healing experience and then send em’ on their delicate and newborn way, you have to be nice to them and let them know that there is love on the other side and someone to go to for help if they need it. A safe container for opening you know? Technology can do a lot, but there is no replacement for a shaman and even if the person is having a good time and can handle every little thing that comes (which I highly doubt they could when you really get down to it and open yourself up) a shaman still needs to be there to deal with the energy in general. This person is having a very open experience and the energy and atmosphere surrounding it must be cared for and tended to like this person was the most delicate flower ever to blossom on the earth at that specific moment. Each person is a magic mushroom inside and to lead someone on a journey is to rewire them for good and right now in light of how shoddy we have been taken care of by govern-mental and western medicine facilitators we need to be as loving and careful as possible to each other. To do this is to birth a whole new being into being and every being deserves the finest. Think strongly with your feminine mind on this one.
On a grand scale this would happen in a gorgeous facility like the one in Dr. Strassman’s brilliant mind at the end of his stellar DMT The Spirit Molecule book and people would come in and soak in a hot tub for a while, 20-30 min, and then they get out and cool off and get on the massage table or whatever modality of body work is right for them and that happens so they are really lose and relaxed and they were of course sipping really great tea or coming up on some medicine in the tub and then they get into the device for journeying and off they go at whatever speed and level they like and then they come back and a shaman leads them to a place where they can relax some more and talk about it and eat a nutrient rich meal and have more tea and herbs to further tune them in (because we are constantly tuning ourselves into everything around us and to truly heal we have to truly tune in) and then they can go home, but they should still have someone with them for a while because a journey is not over when the buzzer dings or when the Rainbows end, it lasts a while and so to make sure that all things are taken care of on all levels an agreement should be made with a friend that they will be there for the other person until all has settled in their energetic field and psyche. or something like all of that anyway. a sacred healing facility with multiple modalities and something far better than anything we currently have in operation.
I also have a friend who makes amazing energy conditioning devices like what you described out of copper wire and crystals and magic and he makes em big and he’s even making them with open source hardware now so that you can turn them up and the Schumann resonance blasts out. He also works with led lights and he’s terribly brilliant, a very powerful wizard really, and could really use some sort of connection thing like this. Here’s his web site
http://www.serpentcoil.com/Site%203/SerpentCoil.html
it’s a little strange to navigate through and I can’t seem to find where he describes his tools, but that’s him and he knows a lot and he’s in the northWest, but if you want to write to him just go ahead, it’s always nice to just share knowledge and get to know people.
Oh, i went to that same in between place once more and it was when i was just trying to sleep, i just naturally went there and things were happening there and i received transmissions, psychic transmissions of sorts, and then i went back up the levels into wakefulness and that was that. so i know it on and off medicine. in short, it's a place of total spiritual/mental expansiveness, limitlessness and ultimate freedom. in time we would even be able to access portals through this and travel wherever we wish. or at least that's what i was told and why not?
i'd like to try this out one day. keep inventing!

Good thoughts!
I like the vision of Strassman's entheogenic healing center of the future. I do think it's coming at us quite quickly, and psychedelic possibilities will open up all around us.
It takes quite a bit of learning to know what you're doing with the plants and scents, for all occasions, as you say. Right now I just want a couple scents that are meditative and calming.
There definitely is a need for the shaman, or healing human connection - perhaps a temple like this would give budding shamans the confidence to conduct a ceremony or healing - it seems we all have a piece of compassion for fellow explorers, that anyone can learn to use and guide others. For example, in the holotropic breathwork workshops, each breather has a sitter, someone who has no shamanic training, but can nevertheless be caring and help facilitate inner growth and trance-formation.
I haven't had too much experience with Kratom, but I'm interested. Would a tea work?
Thanks for the Serpent Coil link! Networks in the global brain are finally booting up!
