i tried logging in yesterday, it said my account was either not activated or is blocked
i tried getting a new password, it said my email wasn't registered
i tried setting up a new account, it said my email was already registered
i couldn't find any email contact address on the site, so on RS found a link to one of the tech people's company and sent a general email to the company via their contact form
i checked, all my posts and comments are now gone (everything posted by 'fluidity')
wtf?
i had to create this new account using a secondary email address i have for my business, just so i could post this and hopefully someone will respond
i hadn't logged in or posted anything for a week or two, so not sure what would've got my 'blocked' / deleted ... unless some spam bot somehow logged in under my account
but other that that, why did my account get removed?
would like some answers please

that's bunk
Interesting, Fluidity. Of all people, strange that it's you, seeing as you've actually stirred the pot around here in the past with your posts. Especially "On Transparency." Funny they should disappear.
Somebody give Fluidity some answers, because these mysterious account deletions seem to always involve someone who questions the logic here. I'm seeing a pattern now.
While we're on the subject, is there a delete option here that I don't know about? Because it seems to me that ending a membership here is only up to the admins. People don't seem to have a problem with this, but they should. Without the option to delete your account, you're all being denied the basic freedom to leave on your own terms.
How many hundreds of inactive users do you think would've taken advantage of that option, had they been given the choice?
Admins, you don't want to be looked on as rulers, but what are we supposed to think when active users get deleted unexpectedly, and inactive users are locked into memberships they no longer desire?
What's the deal?
And since when do admins
And since when do admins have to approve replies before they get posted?
Apologies for the accidental blocking, Fluidity
Hi Fluidity and Everyone,
Sorry about the confusion and for the accidental account deletion. We are currently testing new anti-spam processes and it seems there was a glitch effecting several accounts. Fluidity, I have restored your original account, please let me know if you continue to have problems. I apologize for the issue.
You can always email admin@evolver.net or me directly at jennifer@evolver.net if you have any questions or concerns.
It is true, Joanne, that at this time you need an admin to delete your account. All you have to do is email us and we will do it.
We are also turning on comment approval during late night (EST) hours to stop the SPAM spew. At most it will be a few hours before your comment appears on the site if you post a comment late at night.
I know that Evolver isn't perfect but it's pretty awesome in many, many ways. We (the admins) have been upfront about the things we'd like to improve and are hoping to gain the funds to do so soon. It's disheartening, however, to work so hard on this site and have people immediately assume that it's censorship or some conspiracy that's behind something. It would be my wish that users could start from a place of a little more trust instead of jumping to negative conclusions.
Peace,
jp
Contact Form
Hi Fluidity,
There's a contact form in the about menu which is listed in the navigation in the upper right corner--where all of the main options reside. Perhaps it needs to be even more prominent? I'll run that by the rest of the team.
We never have a shortage of email coming through this form so it seems some folks are finding us :)
Apologies again for your account being blocked.
Peace,
jp

What are people supposed to think? When accounts get deleted randomly, when accounts can't be deleted without permission, when posts need approval before submission, when the staff consistently fails to make announcements of glitches in the system, when the staff consistently ignores a debate til the last minute, when the staff declares a movement and asks for money and then nonchalantly explains that transparency is a term used jokingly among said staff...
Would you prefer the word incompetence over the word conspiracy?
Just delete my account.
I'd miss you.
It wouldn't be the same if I didn't think you were hovering around here likewise, Joanne.
Realistically, Jennifer, I think the Evolvers would just appreciate some more update style musings from the admins. I'm sure one of the inner RS council could find a little time to maintain a mundane (or otherwise) Evolver blog, even tweet style, simply to say that someone spent however much time staring at a computer screen to wrangle with software issues. The dialogue is what is important for all subtle cultural and social angles to work, which is what I thought the RS team is consistantly banking on.
Another thought is simply to get a volunteer janitor rather than attempt to solve the issue of spam from an abstract programming viewpoint. I'm here nine times a day, flipping by in an internet surf, easily able to delete some posts. I'm not even the best choice but I am an admitted sample of the population; clearly, there's a percentage of people here who would be only be too happy to be even minutely involved in Evolver.
Peace.
Evolver is soooo imperfect.
Evolver is soooo imperfect. It could use improvements. And yet, it is so much more than adequate at providing us with a place to meet, discuss, probe, listen, and network. I come here because it is like a family of sorts. Joanne, you are so quick to assume that the "staff" is unscrupulous somehow. Whatever. The staff has no control over my life. I'm not afraid of them, and if critical, then critical in a way that assumes, based on this site and their writings, that they will work for the good of Evolver and those of us who use Evolver. I see us as all being on the same "side", though staff has a different function here than my function.
To be clear.
What Daniel and the RS team have wrought is a feat of cultural, social, and memetic engineering. The ideas they've exemplified and employed for disseminating information are nothing short of surreal and breathtaking. However, there is a point where decisions, action and inaction, having such a centralized core of "necessary" players, everything the admins have done so far in certain regards, will diminish the networks ability to evolve and self-organize through individually innovative solutions.
True?
Not Doing Too Bad
Hey guys,
Just a reminder here. We are coordinating a web magazine, social network, book imprint, and 40 regional groups who are enacting a lot of positive changes in their community. All of this is done with 3 full time staffers -- get that 3. We'd love to do more, but we have been ace time-managers as it is. What other organization do you know is able to pull of so much with so little resources. And a lot of that has to do with the dozens and dozens of amazing volunteers that keep it all running (which also takes a lot of time to help coordinate.
Something I'd invite those criticizers out there to do is get involved, do something. Email me and start a Spore in your area and enact the change you want to see. Email Jennifer and help moderate the site, but get into the action, make a difference and see how that changes your perspective. Also, I'd like to make another shout-out for all the E+SM members that make Evolver possible. Your contributions each month make it so we can all enjoy the site -- thanks!!
I'd also like to give you all an open invitation to visit our offices if you are coming to NYC and see "the behind the scenes." What you'll find is a dedicated, extremely caring and committed crew who want to connect with you and how we can better our world together. Just contact me at jonathan((at))evolver((dot))net.
Best,
Jonathan
