I did this once before, and it was awesome to see everyone's book suggestions!

So, lets do it again. What book has recently opened your mind in a beautiful and helpful way? What is your Evolver book(s) of the week?

mountains beyond mountains

I am reading Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. It is about Dr. Paul Farmer and his devotion to improve the health and lives of the people of Haiti.

Sanaya Roman

Any book by this author...she channels higher beings of light, Orin and Daben, with a lot of clarity. Their words are uplifting and wise. There are a lot of tools to be gained from them. My favorites are Spiritual Growth, Opening to Channel and Living with Joy.

.

Beginners to meditation:

Journey of Awakening: Meditators Guidebook - Ram Dass
Good intro.

Great books on advanced techniques in Tantric Buddhism...only recommended for people with meditation experience:

The Six Yogas of Naropa -Translated by Glenn Mullin
Intense guidebook to cultivating the subtle body, illusory body, and traveling the bardos. Interesting sidenotes about yogas of forceful projection. The yogas of Naropa contain lucid dream practice, heat yoga, and more.

The Psychology of Buddhist Tantra - Rob Preece
Nice synthesis of Jung's theory of Collective Unconscious with esoteric Tibetan Vajrayana. More readable than The Six Yogas of Naropa, but still technical enough for some help in the way of Tantra.

I have 2

I just finished Neither Wolf Nor Dog, which was one of my favorite books I've ever read. It was almost painful to read at times though.

Currently reading The Glass Bead Game (by Hesse, writer of SIddhartha), Hesse is one of my favorite authors. I would recommend starting with Siddhartha - it's a must read in my opinion!

His dark materials

Great that you do this again =) I think last time I recommended a quite heavy book on chakras and meditation practises, so this time I go for a lighter, but very inspiring read:

I warmly recommend the fantasy book His dark materials by Philip Pullman. Such an amazing story, building upon ideas from quantum mechanics and parallel universes. His dark materials are three books in one, and the first book - The golden compass - was made into a Hollywood Film a couple of years ago, with Nicole Kidman playing one of the main parts. Rumour has it they did not dare to make films on the second and third book, since the ideas in them are quite rebellious towards institutions like the church. And they also contain some interesting ideas on what God is, etc...

Generally it contains wonderful ideas on the changes in society that we are going through at the moment. It is "just" fantasy, a fairy tale, and just like so many such stories, full of truths between the lines and inspiration for the mind...

Deeply inspired to new ways of being through power of truth

Making Love by Barry Long

Literally overnight his words had a profound affect on our lovemaking.

:]

The Celestine Prophecy

Usually one that goes

Usually one that goes unnoticed compared to all the books out now, but one of the strongest beginner books for me personally.

nomad codes

Nomads Codes: Adventures in Modern Esoterica, by Erik Davis is the best book I've read this year.

Hope some of you will / have enjoyed it.

It's a Sprawl World After All

More social & psychological impact of American sprawl and how to change it without having to fire up the bulldozer. Great section on how the individual can act to incorporate themselves and build a community in nowhere's ville. This book could be very useful to Evolver actions/ spores when it comes time to expand out of the web page.

"I cannot live without books" -Thomas Jefferson
6 Tektite Serpent
----------------------------
"That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly" - Thomas Paine
"We never reflect how pleasant it is to ask for nothing" - Seneca

"The Living Classroom" - Chris Bache

A carefully written, very useful and interesting book.

I highly recommend his "Dark Night, Early Dawn" as well.

Peace,
Theresa

Embracing Aloha

Beautiful adventure story of a female kahuna turning 80 and initiating her heirs into spiritual leadership leadership in a Hawaiian community. Very deep and beautiful. Elizabeth

Stalking the wild pendulum by Itzhak Bentov

A book about human consciousness and its evolution. Gives great examples from science to cartoons to graphs and diagrams. It brings you full swing from our status quo understanding of the world to the psyche to the astral. It even gives examples of how you can expand your consciousness with incorporating some of his ideas in what I feel to be more of a realistic manner. Discusses heavy topics, but in a lighthearted manner and plenty of examples. The information is pretty much grounded with scientific basic principles and than asks for you to use some of your imagination. Not a totally easy read, but you kind of don't notice the difficulty after a few chapters because of the authors appreciation and playfulness.

The gift of mental power comes from God, Divine Being, and if we concentrate our minds on that truth, we become in tune with this great power -Nikola Tesla
