4 Radical Tips for [Finding and Keeping] Happiness

We often think of evolution writ large, as a sweeping movement across species and worlds – and so it is; but for me, my own evolution is personal, it's something I can only experience in the quality of my relation to Life, to others, and to my self. It's a spiritual evolution on every scale, writ as large as the entire planet, or as small as, well...as small as I Am.

Life as a Sacred Gift

The Sacred on this world stems from the Power, the Medicine, of Nature. Nature's Power flows from Life. Life is the Sacred Dance that the flame, the spark of Consciousness, flickers for.

compassion

compassion softly killing me
and i'm in joy and awe,
feelings - strong - my body present as never before

what was before? who, what - what is this, who am i, what are we really?
i just really do no know.

or do I

?

where is this flow taking me, us - you

?

(oh you are so beautiful, all the you-s in existence, so so beautiful...)

"into the heart" seems too small

Do Angels Walk Around New York City (On Thanksgiving)?

Have you ever seen the beautiful Wim Wender's film, Wings of Desire? It's the story of angels who walk the Earth, invisibly providing compassion to human beings in need of it, but experiencing no human sensation themselves.

Feel for life

At one time in my life i came to a crossroads. At this place my own choices were routinely placing my life at risk for death. i was often terrified by my own behavior yet had no control over it. i had lost all control over myself and knew without doubt that i would kill myself directly or indirectly if things continued as they were.

Towering

The truth towers in the fog of the unforgettable crimes that went unpunished ten years ago. No amount of war can undo what happened, no volume of conspiracy can justify the murder of millions. No court could convict the heinous beings responsible with an appropriate sentence, for no verdict can undo the damage done.

Thought Is Limited

Thought is inherently limited and will continue to create conflict in the world if we don't discover its right place. Thought can be a great tool but there is quite a difference in using thought as a tool and thought using you as a tool. To really feel and understand this with your whole being requires dissolving all the conditioning that has built up over the years existing on this planet.

Offering Food to Obstructing Spirits

For the last few weeks I've been attending weekly Buddhist teachings. In one class, we learned about a method for purifying karma, called Offering Food to Obstructing Spirits. These spirits inhabit another realm, unperceived directly by us, but they know us, and interfere with us. They can cause emotional outbursts, illness, and other bad conditions. This might be out of jealousy, anger...

The Untouchables

Jill came to church today: white skinny girl, pretty but gaunt in a sexy dress and clearly pregnant. Before I knew of any of her story I felt called to go up to her. Almost as soon as I put my arms around her she burst into tears.

We will tell them that it is the Good Lord inside us that made us do it

About a month ago I wound up with a 20-year-old troubled girl in my life. Jennifer has multiple strikes against her. She spent half of her childhood in the system because her mother beat her up so badly. Her mother is a drug addict who has had 17 children. Every single child was taken away. Jennifer reads at the 2nd grade level. She has been in drug rehab herself for chrystal meth and cocaine.

They think she is made of stone

they think she is made of stone.
when mountains fall
and worlds collide,
she is the one they turn to.
With sadness and grief,
they turn to her for light
She smiles, even through her own pain
and reaches out with open arms
to all who would have need.
They seek wisdom through her,
yet see her as stone.
"How could she be hurt, she is so strong"

On Kindness and Inner Battles

Some recent Evolver discussions have earnestly explored how to best integrate with one another, both on evolver.net and in our greater communities. In response, the most consistent thought that's been rattling around my head has been about inner battles. And the fact that virtually everyone is engaged in one.
