My friend Evolver Primtive Times had this question for me about what it means to be a political being, and it provided me a great opportunity to elaborate on this idea. With all the warnings about what "they're" doing to me; all the terror incessantly and vigorously being struck deep in my heart, and all the blame I might feel as a result of "not doing anything about it," here's a couple quick things I think I can do about it:

There is no doubt that we have entered a time of great change. Everyone can feel it whether they can comprehend it or not. The evidence is everywhere; in politics, the economy, science and technology, in earth changes and in consciousness.

Today on November 16th, 2011 Congress is holding a hearing to set up a system that will censor what we can see on the internet. If this bill passes, our freedom of speech and our entire wealth of information will be taken away from us. They are getting scared because we are becoming aware of what is really going on and using the internet as a tool to stop it.

I got excited when I heard about this book, both b/c I think that for people who are interested in creating social change, community is where to do it, and also I knew of the author's most recent work (founding director of MiningWatch Canada, an organization our local Indigenous solidarity group has worked with, and one that has taken on the huge challenge of challenging Canadian mining companies'

This little film shows Tuesday's simulcast between the London and New York OCCUPY communities. I flew out to the encampment at St. Paul's Cathedral, and we sang the 99% song together, across the Atlantic - what a wonderful moment! That made the whole London visit worth it - when Londoners held up a sheet to show the Stop Shopping Choir from Wall Street.

I am very excited to share with all of you my first post on Evolver. I am so pleased that there is a network that allows us to use our conversation through technology as a tool for change rather than profit. Stepping into our Strength by Acknowledging our Challenges- In Response to Occupy Wall Street:

The most successful revolutions in history have not been won with violence, but with ideas. They have not relied on brute force, but utilized their strength through dynamic flexibility. This flexibility is the natural outflowing of a people united under a just cause.

Everyday is an opportunity to create change and raise the frequency of the present moment beyond the last. Protest is about consciousness. Picketing is about generating awareness*. True Protest happens when you choose to feel joy, peace, love, compassion, and connection inspite of difficult circumstances. Protest is about rising to the challenge of being change in order to create it.

I visited the occupation of Wall Street late afternoon yesterday, after recording this Freak Storm sermon. What an unusual time we live in. Tropical storms and people storms sweep through the public squares. Climate change and national debt are Devils releasing deadly energy. Leaders in politics seem like ciphers, drained of energy.

I spent several hours sitting in front of the White House this past weekend. It was a nice day, save for a little rain. It happened that on that same day, 242 other everyday normal individuals (mothers, fathers, teachers, students, clergy, and even a WWII veteran) chose to sit there with me, calm and peaceful, in front of the of the Presidential Mansion.

On that impossible day when the skyline of New York City collapsed on its southern tip - I watched from a rooftop across the East River - we entered an unexpectedly peaceful eye of the storm. We all fell toward the terrible scene. We fell through tunnels, over bridges.

The Christianized Jesus - the turning of a radical into a conservative shadow of his former self - explains our problem of establishing and celebrating freedom fighters today. It is important that our progressive heroes be given a deserved fame, an accurately reported fame. This is crucial in ways that impact our own activism.

Exorcism - the act of driving out a dark spirit that has possessed a person or a place, by commanding it to leave in the name of a more powerful power, in our case the life of the Earth - this is one of the oldest of our human rituals.  However, exorcisms are also embedded in the arts of our culture like little noticed but powerful micro-climates.

At the Tate Modern in London, British Petroleum seeks to capture our imagination by hitching its BP sunflower logo to the Miro exhibit. The artistic experience is then reduced to a dangerously passive consumerism. Only the Earth itself, a kind of freak storm inside, can free us from such a damaging lie.
We tried to let all the victimized life of BP come through us on Monday.
