Sacred Economics

Hey folks,

I was just wondering if any of the members of the group have had a chance to pick up a copy of Charles Eisenstein's new book "Sacred Economics"?

I was fortunate enough to grab the last copy I could find at a local shop and have been breaking into it recently and would love to know if there were any other folks out there who might be interested in sharing some thoughts.

Governments

I would like to say I am not necessarily an anarchist. I just want change within our system. If our governments are willing to change the way they run from the best interests of the corporations to the best interest of people I would be happy.

What is prosperity?

In my last blog post, I asked the question, "What is Money"?
You guys offered some really good answers, and from what you responded, here's what I got;
Money is an idea, a concept which is applied to an object. In ancient societies, seashells were currency. There have been many different currencies; gold and silver, land and livestock, and today, even ourselves, the debt-ridden human race.

Raindrop Reflections

I had a job interview today. As I made my way to the offices of my potential employer, I got caught in traffic. I know, everyone will say, "well you should have planned for traffic, that was very irresponsible to you." I left with plenty of flex time available for my commute, but I encountered standstill traffic about five minutes into my drive.

East meets West: China, exotic rare earth metals, and the Empire of the West

You may have heard rumblings about China cutting off the West's supply of exotic metals. Recently, China restricted the export of some metals to Japan and prompted Hilary Clinton to quickly seek assurances that the same would not happen to the US. Chinese officials told her they would remain a “reliable supplier” of the minerals.

the individual vs. the collective

I have been thinking about the words community, communal, communism, without the baggage of history. I may be stating the obvious here, but what's happened in the past 20 years is that capitalism has taken over the world. We have been brainwashed by the corporatocracy to believe that 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness' can only be achieved by individual gain.

Beyond the Shopocalypse on Reality Sandwich!

"Beyond the Shopocalypse, Part One" for Reality Sandwich, goes back to our basic faith. Good to do that once in a while, Amen? Tony Torn directs, Jonathan Phillips interviews. Savitri and I try to respond, and Lena Nighstar Talen is hidden mysteriously within the frame of the shot... And love the Coney footage, with the Mermaid Parade coming up soon...

2012 : Time For Change, SF Screening :: First Thoughts

Awesome stuff, thank you to Daniel, Joao and all of the wonderful producers, presenters and commentators.

I found the film to be engaging, thoughtful, pragmatic, enjoyable and the animation is superb. Fantastic, like a slick mix of Monty Python and Alex Grey! Really well-done.

Might I add a few comments?

Erotic Economy

The word 'erotic' is derived from the Greek God of love, sexuality and beauty, Eros. It's a binding principle of attraction, emotion and union. Erotic nature draws us together in pleasure, desire, and joy. Where Eros is feminine, Logos is masculine and refers to the rational mind, logic and reason.

money...

from President Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Taylor, 26 Nov 1798

Quote:
"I wish it were possible to obtain a single amendment to our Constitution. I would be willing to depend on that alone for the reduction of the administration of our government to the genuine principles of its Constitution; I mean an additional article, taking from the federal government the power of borrowing."

True Value

In order to really begin thinking about alternative economics, and to understand systems and understand our own system to hopefully design a better one, we need to start thinking about value. Any economic system needs to address this question... and I think it's a lot more central to our problems than we think.

MINO (money is no object)

This blog is a sequel to an earlier one I wrote, entitled "The Economy Must Die". That blog exposed the false mythology of the monetary economy. This one will suggest a possible alternative. As I see it, the biggest flaw of a currency based economy is the presence of coercion. Currency use cannot survive without coercion.

Refining The Path to Freedom: Veganic Homestead Communities

After doing several different work-exchanges at various farms/sanctuaries/communities, etc. in Oregon, New York and Hawaii, I've gained a better understanding of why none of them seemed to be Ideal, in an ethical/sustainable way, to human inner-nature or harmonious with outer Nature.

Human-Scale Economics

The moment any member of a community is unable to understand the system of the community, the system has failed. As Jung writes, "Everything that exceeds a certain human size evokes equally inhuman powers in man's unconscious." Our global financial system has grown to a level of abstraction and complexity that ultimately results in this type of unconscious enslavement.
