I had lunch yesterday with my best friend of over thirty years. He is being treated with chemotherapy for leukemia and has other health challenges, too. At one point in the conversation John told me that despite the physical torture of his treatment, he has never been so happy. He said, “All the crap, the fears and anger just disappeared, and I feel freer than I ever have in my life.”

In a world that is plagued by the decisions of yesterday and the ongoing struggles of today anything that is making sincere efforts towards cultivating a sustainable future is always worth sharing. One such effort is that which is taking place at SHFT.com.

The earth can be seen as a meta-organism composed of super-organisms, such as human beings. We host somewhere between 2000-2500 different species, most of which reside in our guts. Females have more diversity than males, and those extra species tend to live in the birth canal where one of their functions is to coat babies as they are born.

This little film shows Tuesday's simulcast between the London and New York OCCUPY communities. I flew out to the encampment at St. Paul's Cathedral, and we sang the 99% song together, across the Atlantic - what a wonderful moment! That made the whole London visit worth it - when Londoners held up a sheet to show the Stop Shopping Choir from Wall Street.

The earth is the home to millions of species. Humans are just one species out of hundred of thousands of plants, animals, fungi and bacteria. Even against such odds humans have become the most invasive organism the planet has ever seen. Since the beginning of conscious awareness, humans have felt the need to excercise our power over the world around us.

I went recently to a workshop at EarthDance in western Massachusetts. It was called Weave, and was put together by my friends Kay'aleya and Just.

A baby rests on its side its feet kicking about. The mother is in the distance looking for it. I walk further into the woods. The canopy that once supported it safely in its nest is now gone. Several huge trees were injured others as they were thoughtlessly felled. This was created as a wildlife habitat over ten years ago.

This is an amazing film of Antartica. A friend of mine is one of the scientists in it.
