We are now living in a time where multiple conflicts and crises are dominating the world's attention to the point that many people are feeling overwhelmed and demoralized. The solution to this is the same as it has ever been: to refocus our attention to creating a positive future.
It actually happened. In all my life I never expected to see it. It happened in the late 80's during the Clinton years, shortly after Kosovo. I do not remember exactly when; I didn't believe it at the time. it was like a dream. It began gradually. I sensed something was different.
What is occurring in the Gulf of Mexico is not an isolated incident. It is only one component part to an entire ecology of unconsciousness. This is the same unconsciousness that allows the removal of mountaintops that have evolved over millions of years, the damming of rivers that have formed throughout great shifts of world ages, and the systematic deforestation of the entire planet.
[Just as disclaimer to all who read this, I wrote this piece in 2008 after an infuriating discussion with some "patriotic" classmates. I understand that anyone who is a part of this website is probably as aware, or even more aware of all this than I am, but I think the last paragraph is still important for all to read]
Everywhere I look, I see people being more and more aggressive, careless, arrogant and greedy. Hate seems to be spreading like a disease through our society.
The trouble with negativity, is that it’s infectious. If someone pushes you out of the way to get a seat on the train, you might get angry. Then the next time, you find that you’re the one pushing someone out of the way.

I haven't had a chance to explore this yet but it seems so relevant that I wanted to get it out here. One of the three times per day that their sessions occur overlaps with 11PM on Sundays.
As I sit here on a chilly autumn morning listening to Mos Def's song "New World Water" I am reminded of yet another issue which is pressing on the happiness and well-being of the world's population. WATER!

The least we can do for the people in Iran struggling for what a lot take for granted in this country is be informed about what is going on there. If we know what is really happening in Iran it will be more difficult for our government to take advantage of our ignorance when it comes time to make foreign policy.
I invite you as well as 4 others from our neighborhood to my house. We have a common interest, so I have asked you all over to discus it. You see, we have a gang problem in the area in which we live. Two of us have ties to these gangs. Two of us live in the midst of the gangs with no ties, and two of us live on the edge of the problem areas, but other then that no interaction with the gangs.
